摘要: A substrate is coated with an essentially water-free composition. The composition includes a superabsorbent polymer that absorbs from about 25 to greater than 100 times its weight in water and a material for lubricating the substrate. The superabsorbent polymer may be a polymer of acrylic acid, acrylamide or acrylate. Also included is a method for protecting a substrate from the effects of water or water migration.

摘要: A process is disclosed for manufacturing a lubricant composition comprising combining a superabsorbent polymer with a material for decreasing friction between moving surfaces. The superabsorbent polymer absorbs from about 25 to greater than 100 times its weight in water and may comprise a polymer of acrylic acid, an acrylic ester, acrylonitrile or acrylamide, including co-polymers thereof or starch graft co-polymers thereof or mixtures thereof. A product produced by the process includes the material for decreasing friction comprising a petroleum lubricant containing an additive, water containing an additive, synthetic lubricant, grease, solid lubricant or metal working lubricant, wherein the synthetic lubricant, grease, solid lubricant or metal working lubricant optionally contain an additive. A process comprising controlling the delivery of a lubricant to at least one of two moving surfaces in order to decrease friction between said moving surfaces, is also disclosed. This process includes applying the lubricant composition to at least one of the surfaces. The lubricant composition in this instance comprises a superabsorbent polymer combined with a material for decreasing friction between moving surfaces, wherein the material for decreasing friction comprises a petroleum lubricant, water, synthetic lubricant, grease, solid lubricant or metal working lubricant, and optionally an additive.

摘要: A powder metal mixture comprises a lubricant powder conventionally used to produce powder metal parts in combination with a modified lubricant. A lubricant conventionally used to compact and sinter a chosen powder metal mixture is modified by adding to it starch particles smaller than the average metal particle, and optionally, micronized cellulose fibers in so small an amount that the modified lubricant is present in an amount less than 2% by weight of the mixture. The Hall apparent density and the Hall flow rate of a powder metal mixture made with the modified lubricant of starch or (starch+fibers) remains within the ranges deemed desirable for production of compacted powder metal parts. Using the modified lubricant in lieu of the conventional lubricant increases green strength of a part made by compacting the mixture and improves dimensional conformance.

摘要: A method for imparting anti-seize protection and lubricant to threaded connections of protection during make-up and break-out is disclosed which includes adhering a metallic anti-seize film to threads of threaded connections and coating the film protected threads with a lubricating composition to form an anti-seize/lubricating system with reduced adverse environmental impact. The method can also include depositing a bonding film or layer onto the threads prior to adhering the anti-seize film.

The lubricant composition in this instance comprises a superabsorbent polymer combined with a material for decreasing friction between moving surfaces, wherein the material for decreasing friction comprises a petroleum lubricant, water, synthetic lubricant, grease, solid lubricant or metal working lubricant, and optionally an additive.

摘要: Disclosed is a lubricant carrier salt for facilitating the cold forming of a workpiece of iron or steel, based on boric acid and/or alkali borate. The salt has an additional content of aliphatic di- or tricarboxylic acid, which either is unsubstituted or substituted by at least one hydroxyl group, and/or of alkali salts thereof, the weight ratio of boric acid/alkali borate to the acid is (5 to 15):1. Especially appropriate carboxylic acids are malonic acid, maleic acid, succinic acid, tartaric acid and/or citric acid.Inorganic or organic thickening agents, such as bentonite and/or polysaccharide, aluminate and/or silicate, dispersants, lubricants and/or antioxidants as well as titanium salt can be contained as additional components in the lubricant carrier salt of the invention.Also disclosed is a method for facilitating the cold working of a workpiece of iron or steel, in which the lubricant carrier salt is applied to the workpiece, provided if desired with a phosphate coating, out of an aqueous solution or dispersion with a concentration of 5 to 30 wt-% and with a temperature of 80 to 100.degree. C. by the immersion or pass-through method.

That system may be used in a method for protecting threaded connections that includes the steps of: coating me threads, prior to make-up, with the coating and bonding composition and then coating them with the environmentally friendly lubricating composition, after the coated threads have dried.
