The porous solid lubricant (10) containing a lubricating component and a resin component is a solid made porous by foaming and hardening the resin component.

The borate-based additive provides corrosion protection through electrochemical binding of active surface corrosive sites, lubrication enhancement through the creation and re-supply to a surface where friction contact occasionally occurs of a weak slip lane crystalline material which may be a locally formed product utilizing local atmospheric humidity, and a material for reaction with an initiator to provide for freezing point depression during coating application. The aqueous dispersion of polyamide resin of the present invention comprises dispersed polyamide resin particles, basic material and water. The dispersed polyamide resin particles have a weight-average diameter of 0.1-10 &mgr;m. The ratio of end carboxyl groups to end amino groups in the polyamide resin is between 60/40 and 100/0. The amount of said basic material added is 0.2-3.0 mol per mol of end carboxyl groups. Such an aqueous dispersion of polyamide resin can be manufactured by adding the polyamide resin to an aqueous dispersion medium containing 0.2-3.0 mol of basic material per mol of end carboxyl groups in the polyamide resin.

The application of carbon fluoride chloride in dry lubricant compositions is disclosed. The material offers a substantial improvement in lubricating properties over prior art carbon fluoride dry lubricants.The improved lubricant is comprised of carbon fluoride chloride of the general formula (C.sub.y F.sub.x Cl.sub.z).sub.n wherein y is 1 or 2, x is greater than 0 to 1.2, z is 0.1 and n defines an infinitely large two dimensional array of repeating units occurring in this molecule of high molecular weight. The resulting lubricant has improved lubricating properties over graphite, MoS.sub.2 and carbon monofluoride.
