摘要： Polyhydroxyl functional compounds that contain an all hydrocarbon backbone, wherein all of the hydroxyl groups are bonded to a primary carbon atom, are prepared through the reaction of an alpha, omega-terminal diol having a total of from about 6 to about 42 carbon atoms terminated with a mono-ol having a total of from about 4 to about 42 carbon atoms. The polyols can be used as additives in hydrocarbon oils, drilling fluids, industrial and automotive lubricating fluids, dispersants, engine lubricants, greases, coatings, adhesives, and also in magnetorheological fluids to improve various properties such as dispersion, wear protection, reduction of friction, high temperature stability, and improved aging.

摘要： An oil-soluble hydrocarbyl phenol aldehyde condensate having the following structure: wherein n is 0 to 10, preferably 1 to 8, more preferably 2 to 6, and most preferably 3 to 5; Y is a divalent bridging group, and is preferably a hydrocarbyl group, preferably having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and R is a hydrocarbyl group having from 4 to 30, preferably 8 to 18, and most preferably 9 to 15 carbon atoms. The oil-soluble hydrocarbyl phenol aldehyde condensate has a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 1250 to 1680, as measured by MALDI-TOF (Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization-Time of Flight) mass spectrometry.

摘要： Novel compounds of the general formula ##STR1## wherein each R.sub.1 is independently a tertiary alkyl group containing from 4 to about 8 carbon atoms and each of X, Y and Z is independently hydrogen or a hydrocarbon-based group, provided at least one of X, Y and Z is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing at least 7 carbon atoms, and wherein R.sub.1 is different from the at least one of X, Y and Z that is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing at least 7 carbon atoms, R.sub.2 is an alkylene or alkylidene group, and n is a number ranging from zero to about 4. Also disclosed are methods for preparing novel phenolic compounds, organic compositions, including lubricants based on oils of lubricating viscosity and fuels based on normally liquid fuels and additive concentrates containing the novel phenolic compounds of this invention.

摘要： A compound is a condensate of 1,2,3-trihydroxybenzene with an aldehyde. The condensate is a macrocyclic compound such as a cyclic tetramer. The aldehyde is preferably a long-chain aldehyde such as hexanal, dodecanal or tetradecanal. The condensate can be used as an anti-wear additive in hydrocarbon liquids such as liquid paraffin or as an anti-corrosion additive. The condensate can be prepared by reacting 1,2,3-trihydroxybenzene with an equimolar quantity of an aldehyde in the presence of an acid.

摘要： Organic material is stabilized against oxidative degradation by the addition of a small amount of an antioxidant compound or mixture of compounds containing a central segment of one to about ten divalent o-hydrocarbyl phenol groups (e.g. o-tert-butylphenol) bonded to each other through a methylene group and having terminal 3,5-dihydrocarbyl-4-hydroxybenzyl groups at each end. They are made by first condensing o-hydrocarbyl phenol with formaldehyde and then reacting the intermediate with 2,6-dihydrocarbyl phenol and formaldehyde.
