A backside coated fabric includes a fabric substrate having a front side (face) and a back side. A water permeable spacer layer is applied to the back side of the fabric substrate. The water permeable spacer layer allows penetration of water into its matrix when hydrostatic water pressure is applied to the face of the fabric substrate. The water permeable spacer layer provides a smooth coating surface onto which subsequent water impermeable barrier layers can be applied creating a physical separating layer between the fabric substrate and the water impermeable barrier layer. A water impermeable barrier layer is disposed over the water permeable spacer layer to provide an impermeable water barrier layer that does not allow penetration of water through the coated fabric when hydrostatic water pressure is applied to the face of the fabric construction.

The present invention provides a coated fabric for an air bag obtained by applying an elastomer resin onto at least one side of a woven fabric made from synthetic fiber, characterized in that the applied amount of the elastomer resin is 25 to 60 g/m2, that an average resin thickness on warp and weft at head top of the woven fabric surface is 8 μm to 45 μm, and that number of foams having diameter of 30 μm or larger is 100 or more/cm2 on the surface of a resin layer.The coated fabric for an air bag has a high heat resistance to such an extent that it can be used well for a reinforcing fabric for an air bag, has a heat resistance in such a level that it can be used for an inflator attachment port having high thermal load even in an applied amount of 60 g/m2 or less, and prevents, at the same time, a blocking property caused by contact between the coated surfaces.

Such an article has an opacifying layer that is capable of blocking predetermined electromagnetic radiation. The article contains (a) porous particles comprising a continuous polymeric binder and pores within the continuous polymeric binder, the porous particles having a glass transition temperature of at least 25° C. and a mode particle size of at least 2 μm and up to and including 50 μm. The article also contains an opacifying colorant that absorbs the predetermined electromagnetic radiation (such as within 400 nm to 700 nm), in an amount of at least 0.001 weight % based on the total dry weight of the opacifying layer, and a matrix polymer in which the porous particles and opacifying colorant are dispersed.
