    摘要: A fail-safe transmission service machine (12) allows old ATF to be pumped out of a transmission (10b) as a vehicle engine (10a) runs while the vehicle (10) is stationary. The machine (12) responsively pumps a matching volume of new ATF into the transmission so that dry running of the transmission can not occur. If the supply of new ATF runs out or if power to the service machine (12) is interrupted, the machine reverts to closed loop fluid circulation for the transmission. A hydraulic rectifier (42) provides for universal connection of hoses between the transmission cooler fluid circulation loop (39) of the vehicle (10) and the service machine (12). An electrically driven assistance pump (94) allows the service of vehicles which have low-flow or low-pressure transmission pumps.

    摘要: Various cleaning compositions useful in cleaning oil and carbon residue encrusted metallic surfaces are described. The specific formulations of the present invention may include a variety of non-corrosive and non-hazardous materials which include an aliphatic ether of a propylene glycol and/or an ester thereof, an alkanolamine, an aliphatic fatty acid blend, an alkyl pyrrolidone, water and, in some applications, a mild caustic such as ammonium hydroxide, for example. The various formulations of the present invention combine their ability to dissolve or emulsify a combination of deposits commonly found on auto and aircraft engines and the like. These formulations are most effective in removing or dissolving soils, such as oils, greases, varnishes and like residue from oil, fuel, solvents and other sources. The particular formulations of the present invention are generally non-corrosive to metal surfaces, such as iron, steel, aluminum and aluminum alloys, die cast materials, such as zinc or zinc related materials or other miscellaneous non-ferrous materials, such as brass and bronze parts containing copper and tin, for example.

    摘要: A two-stroke direct fuel injected internal combustion engine has an ignition coil dwell time control system. An electronic control unit controls switching of electronic ignition coil drivers in a manner to minimize ignition coil dwell times at medium and high engine speeds where low ignition coil dwell times can be used without sacrificing engine performance. The electronic control unit also implements an intermittent spark plug cleaning strategy to remove carbon deposits from fouled spark plugs. Intermittent cleaning is accomplished during engine operation by periodically raising the ignition coil dwell time to an exaggerated cleaning level for a relatively short period of time (e.g. one minute) after it is determined the spark plug cleaning should occur (e.g. 10 to 20 engine operating hours since previous cleaning).

    摘要: A low-friction, extended-life exhaust valve has a coating on the valve stem that is protected from hot exhaust gases. The valve stem slides axially in a valve guide pressed into the cylinder head, and the coating on the valve stem is receded away from the end of the valve guide exposed to the hot exhaust gases passing through the exhaust port. Protecting the coating from the hot exhaust gases allows the use of coatings that cannot normally withstand the harsh environment to which the exhaust valve is exposed. The preferred coating is a molybdenum oxide coating, which not only retains lubricating oil because of its porous nature, but also has solid lubricity which is useful in case of hydrostatic breakdown of the lubricant between engine cycles. It is preferred that the non-coated portion of the valve stem, which is located towards the end of the valve guide where the hot exhaust gases are exposed, be recessed so that the bore of the valve guide contacts only the coated portion of the valve stem, thereby further reducing wear. Other embodiments of the invention involve various coatings and configurations for the valve guide as well as the valve stem.
