Formation of slag deposits and/or pressure within the gasifier is monitored by measuring strain development in parts exposed to stress induced by weight of the slag deposits or induced by internal pressure, respectively.

Provided are a method and a device for producing synthesis gas and for operating an internal combustion engine therewith. The engine fuel gases can be produced from changing heterogeneous organic fuels, wherein highly tar-laden product gas and pyrolysis gas are formed. The gas mixtures or the syntheses gas formed and by special operation of the gas engine are usable as an addition to the ignition oil. The synthesis gas is generated from the pyrolysis gas that is generated in a pyrolysis reactor and from the product gas that results from autothermal gasification of the pyrolysis coke formed and/or of the pyrolysis oil in an atmospheric steady-state fluidized bed gasifier. Then purifying the synthesis gas in a gas scrubber and in an tar electrostatic filter, passing the synthesis gas via a compressor into a separate injector of a two-stroke dual-fuel engine, bypassing turbocharger and intercooler.

A gasification reactor for producing crude gas, containing CO or H2, by gasification of ash-containing fuel with oxygen-containing gas, at temperatures above the melting temperature of the ash, has a reaction chamber formed by a membrane wall through which coolant flows, within a pressure container, is provided, with a narrowing transition channel into a gas cooling chamber, and spin-reducing, cooled bulkheads in the transition channel. The, wall that carries the bulkheads makes a transition, below the bulkheads, into a cylinder wall that is reduced in diameter, by way of a step having a corrugated surface. The cylinder wall, which is reduced in diameter, is enclosed by a further cylindrical wall, which is enlarged in diameter, which wall forms a second slag drip edge at its end, in the direction of gravity. The further cylindrical wall is disposed to be adjustable in its vertical position, with reference to the first drip edge.

A method and system for fueling of a burner in a direct-fired device using syngas. A gasifier produces syngas from a carbonaceous feedstock such as biomass. The syngas is fed to a syngas burner. A booster burner disposed between the gasifier and the syngas burner increases the temperature of the syngas. The booster burner may be provided with an approximately stoichiometric or sub-stoichiometric amount of oxidant. Operation of the booster burner may be regulated based on the temperature of the syngas. The syngas burner may be used to direct-fire a device requiring a relatively high flame temperature, such as, for example, a lime kiln.

A pyrolysis chamber for the extraction of combustible gasses from biomass waste such as wood chips has a gravity fed chamber, where fuel passes, in succession, through a pre-heating zone, an oxidation and reduction zone, a gas outlet zone and a solids offloading zone. The pre-heating zone has plasma torches which direct an air plasma into the chamber, thereby pre-heating the fuel to a temperature of 1200-1500° C., after which the fuel enters the oxidation and reduction zone, where it is exposed to a steam plasma of 1500° C. which travels through plasma torches to an annular ring distributor surrounding the chamber and having apertures directing the steam plasma into the chamber, thereby providing enhanced generation of combustible gasses of CO and H2. The combustible gasses are removed in the gas outlet zone, which has a half annular ring collector removing combustible gasses out of the chamber and half annular ring distributor injecting an air plasma into the chamber for gasification of the ash residual carbon. A solids offloading part has a rotating grate for the removal of ash and slag for delivery to a water trough.
