    摘要: A wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member, an inner member, double row rolling elements, and seals. At least one seal has a slinger and an annular sealing plate. The sealing plate has a metal core, press fit into the outer member, and a sealing member, integrally vulcanized adhered to the metal core. The sealing member has first and second side lips, formed with an inclination extending radially outward, and a cylindrical inner end portion, surrounding the inner circumferential edge and a portion of the back surface of the metal core. Each tip of the first and second side lips is in sliding contact with the slinger, with a predetermined interference. The cylindrical inner end portion is arranged opposite to the slinger with a slight radial gap therebetween to form a labyrinth seal.

    摘要: A wheel bearing device, in which a swaged portion of a wheel hub abuts against a shoulder portion of a joint outer ring, is provided to positively prevent a stick slip noise from being generated at the time of the vehicle being pulled away from a parked position. The wheel bearing device includes an outer ring having double rows of race surfaces formed on its inner circumference; a wheel hub having one of the double rows of race surfaces formed on its outer circumference; an inner ring press-fitted over a reduced diameter step portion of the wheel hub and having the other of the race surfaces formed on its outer circumference; and double rows of rollers interposed on the respective race surfaces between the outer ring and the wheel hub and between the outer ring and the inner ring. The wheel bearing device is configured such that an end portion of the reduced diameter step portion of the wheel hub is swaged to thereby integrate the wheel hub with the inner ring, and a joint outer ring of a constant velocity universal joint is fitted into an inner diameter of the wheel hub via torque transmission means, allowing the swaged portion of the wheel hub to abut the shoulder portion of the joint outer ring. The swaged portion of the wheel hub is left non-quenched, whereas the surface-hardened abutted portion of the shoulder portion of the joint outer ring has a surface roughness of Ra 5.0 or more.

    摘要: A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus is formed as a unit and has a wheel hub with a wheel mounting flange at one end. A cylindrical portion extends from the wheel mounting flange, via a shoulder portion. A wheel bearing, formed by a double row rolling bearing, is press fit onto the cylindrical portion of the wheel hub. The wheel bearing has an outer member formed with double row outer raceway surfaces on its inner circumferential surface. A pair of inner rings, formed with inner raceway surfaces, is arranged opposite to the double row outer raceway surfaces. The rings are press fit onto the cylindrical portion of the wheel hub, via a predetermined interference. One ring abuts the shoulder portion. Double row rolling elements are freely rollably contained between the opposed inner and outer raceway surfaces, via cages. The inner rings are axially immovably secured by a caulked portion. The caulked portion is formed by plastically radially outwardly deforming the end portion of the cylindrical portion. The inner circumferential surfaces of one end of the inner rings are formed with predetermined chamfer portions. The chamfer portion of the inner ring of the inner side is smaller than the chamfer portion of the inner ring of the outer side.

    摘要: A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus which limits hoop stress generated in the inner ring during caulking, to below a predetermined level, can improve durability and reliability of the inner ring. Radial expansion of the outer circumferential surface of the inner ring, before and after said plastic deformation, is measured so that the amount of radial expansion of the inner ring is controlled based on a predetermined relationship between the hoop stress and the amount of radial expansion of the inner ring. The hoop stress in the inner member is limited below a predetermined level. Thus, it is possible to easily and exactly control the hoop stress in the inner ring caulked onto the hub. This prevents the generation of cracking or delayed fracture of the inner ring, to provide a bearing apparatus with an inner ring with superior durability and reliability.

    摘要: A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member on its inner circumference with double row tapered outer raceway surfaces arranged so that each smaller diameter side faces toward each other. An inner member includes a wheel hub and an inner ring. The wheel hub has an integrally formed wheel mounting flange. Its outer circumference has one inner raceway surface arranged opposite to one of the double row outer raceway surfaces. A cylindrical portion axially extends from the inner raceway surface. The inner ring is fit onto the cylindrical portion of the wheel hub, via a predetermined interference. The inner ring outer circumference has another inner raceway surface arranged opposite to the other of the double row outer raceway surfaces. Double row tapered rollers are freely rollably contained between the inner and outer raceway surfaces, respectively, of the inner member and the outer member. Seals are mounted in annular openings formed between the outer member and the inner member. The inner ring is formed with a large flange on its larger diameter side of the inner raceway surface. The larger flange guides the inner side tapered rollers of the double row tapered rollers. A flange ring is fit onto the wheel hub at a place adjacent to the wheel mounting flange to guide the outer side tapered rollers of the double row tapered rollers. The flange ring abuts against and guides the larger end faces of the outer side tapered rollers. A pitch circle diameter of a row of outer side tapered rollers is set larger than a pitch circle diameter of a row of inner side tapered rollers.

The wheel support bearing assembly with which the protective cap (18) can be used is of a type including a magnetic encoder (10) provided in a sealing unit (5). This protective cap (18) includes an annular cover-up portion (18a) for enclosing an annular surface of the magnetic encoder (10) that is exposed bare to the outside, and an engagement wall (18b). The engagement wall (18b) is integral with the annular cover-up portion (18a) and of a cylindrical shape capable of being removably engaged in the wheel support bearing assembly.

    摘要: A wheel support bearing assembly includes inner and outer members (1 and 2) and at least one row of rolling elements (3) operatively interposed between the inner and outer members (1 and 2) and an annular sealing device (5) sealing an open end of an annular space defined between the inner and outer members (1 and 2). The sealing device (5) includes first and second annular sealing plates (11 and 12) fitted to different members out of the inner and outer members (1 and 2). Each of the first and second sealing plates (11 and 12) includes a generally cylindrical wall (11a or 12a) and a radial wall (11b or 12b) assembled together to represent a generally L-shaped section. The first sealing plate (11) is fitted to one of the inner and outer members (1 and 2) that serves as a rotating member. An elastic member (14) mixed with a powdered magnetic material is bonded by vulcanization to the radial wall (11b) of the first sealing plate (11). A protective cover (18) made of a non-magnetic material is positioned on one side adjacent an exterior of the multi-pole magnet (14) with a predetermined air gap left therebetween that the number of revolution can be detected through the protective cover (18).
