A seal for a continuous casting furnace having a melting chamber with a mold therein for producing a metal cast includes a passage between the melting chamber and external atmosphere. As the cast moves through the passage, the cast outer surface and the passage inner surface define therebetween a reservoir for containing liquid glass or other molten material to prevent the external atmosphere from entering the melting chamber. Particulate material fed into the reservoir is melted by heat from the cast to form the molten material. The molten material coats the cast as it moves through the passage and solidifies to form a coating to protect the hot cast from reacting with the external atmosphere. Preferably, the mold has an inner surface with a cross-sectional shape to define a cross-sectional shape of the cast outer surface whereby these cross-sectional shapes are substantially the same as a cross-sectional shape of the passage inner surface.

In a method and system for monitoring events occurring at respective servers of a configuration of nodes, a first server located at a first node receives information from a messaging system pertaining to events at servers located at other nodes. The messaging system usefully comprises a highly available (HA) bulletin board or the like. When the first server receives a start event notification pertaining to a second server located at a second node, a direct communication path is established between the first and second servers. The first server identifies events in the second server that affect or are of interest to services of the first server. The first server then registers with the second server, to receive notification through the direct communication path when respective identified events occur.

A reticle for use in a photolithography process for exposing a photoresist layer in the production of a component which is formed from a plurality of adjacent exposed areas. The reticle includes an exposure aperture adapted to allow light to pass through the reticle, a patterned area within the exposure aperture which defines at least part of the functional design of the component, and one or more “stitching” structures located close to one or more of the edges of the exposure aperture. The “stitching” structures are arranged to create “stitching” marks on the photoresist, which can be used to determine whether the adjacent exposed areas have been accurately positioned.

The methods, devices, and systems are provided for performing endovascular repair of atrioventricular and other cardiac valves in the heart. Regurgitation of an atrioventricular valve, particularly a mitral valve, can be repaired by modifying a tissue structure selected from the valve leaflets, the valve annulus, the valve chordae, and the papillary muscles. These structures may be modified by suturing, stapling, snaring, or shortening, using interventional tools which are introduced to a heart chamber. Preferably, the tissue structures will be temporarily modified prior to permanent modification. For example, opposed valve leaflets may be temporarily grasped and held into position prior to permanent attachment.

A CMOS inverter circuit is provided which includes a compensation circuit which modifies the input threshold of the inverter depending on changes in the supply voltage. The inverter includes a standard CMOS inverter, current boosting circuitry and a further inverter. The input of the inverter is coupled to the current boosting circuitry and the input of the further inverter. The current boosting circuitry is also coupled to one of the supply voltages. The current boosting circuitry is operative to effectively change the PMOS to NMOS ratio of the inverter to maintain a substantially constant input threshold to counter the effect of any change in supply voltage.
