Rigid polyurethane foams are produced by reacting a polyisocyanate with a polyester containing at least two isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms and having a molecular weight of 400 to 10,000 in the presence of water, an organic blowing agent, a flameproofing agent and a compound containing at least two isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms and having a molecular weight in the range from 32 to 399 as crosslinking agent, optionally in the presence of known auxiliaries and additives. The polyester, the flameproofing agent and the crosslinking agent are used in quantities such that from about 15 to about 35 parts by weight of polyester, from about 50 to about 80 parts by weight flameproofing agent and from about 5 to about 15 parts by weight of crosslinking agent (with the sum of the parts by weight of these components adding up to 100) are present. These foams are useful as insulating materials in applications where flame resistance is important.

The present invention is directed to aqueous coating compositions suitable for use as coating and finishing agents for surface coatings, preferably PVC or polyurethane coatings, based on sedimentation-stable polyurethane dispersions having a solids content of about 10-70% by weight wherein the polyurethane-urea solids material is based on polyester diols, low molecular weight diols and optionally triols, chemically incorporated hydrophilic groups, specific mixtures of diisocyanates and polyamine chain extenders having an average functionality of greater than 2 and wherein the aqueous preparations additionally contain alkoxylated dimethyl-polysiloxanes and water-soluble polyethylene oxides. The present invention is also directed to a process for applying top coats and finishes to surface coatings, preferably PVC or polyurethane surface coatings, wherein the above-described aqueous coating and finishing agents are used as the top coat and the coatings are cured at about 70.degree.-170.degree. C.

Improved diecuttable polyester urethane foams are provided by the inclusion in the foam formulation of specified minor amounts of certain low molecular weight polyols, typically having hydroxyl numbers of 100 or greater. Representative useful species of such polyols include aliphatic alcohols, such as glycerol and erythritol, polymethylols such as trimethylolpropane, alkanolamines such as triethanolamine and relatively low molecular weight alkylene oxide adducts such as propylene-glycerol adducts and the like. Especially effective diecuttable foam formulations are provided by further employing, as co-additives, certain alkylene oxide adducts of linear alcohols or phenols, sulfonated petroleum oils, ammonium salts and silicone-containing copolymers. If desired, the viscosity and compatibility characteristics of the additive and/or additive and co-additive mixture may be modified by the incorporation of a diluent.

Polyester-urethane polymers, prepared from the reaction of specific molar ratios of diisocyanates with specific mixtures of polyesterdiols, glycols, triols and tetraols, and having 4-10 reactive isocyanate groups are further reacted with hydroxyalkyl acrylates through the free isocyanate functionality to provide oligomers having from about 4-10 acrylates units per each mole unit of polyurethane chain. Such polymers when crosslinked under ultraviolet radiation in the presence of photosensitizers, specific reactive monofunctional acrylate solvents and multifunctional acrylate cross-linking agents cure without air inhibition to yield superior "wet look" finishes especially useful for coating metal, wood and floor tile.

The polyurethane foam layer is made from a foam formulation that includes certain polyester polyols. The presence of the polyester polyol improves flow characteristics of the foam formulation. The present invention relates to a reactive polyurethane prepolymer composition, which can be used as a hot melt adhesive, comprising a first polyurethane prepolymer which is the reaction product of the reaction of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) with poly(1,6-hexamethylene adipate) glycol (PHAG) with a molecular weight (Mw) of 500 g/mol to 10,000 g/mol and with an NCO content of 0.5 wt % to 7 wt %, preferably of 3 wt % to 7 wt % and more preferably of 5 wt % to 7 wt %, comprising less than 0.1 wt % free MDI monomer based on the total weight of the first polyurethane prepolymer, a second polyurethane prepolymer which is the reaction product of the reaction of methylene diphenyl diisocyanate with polypropylene glycol (PPG) or a succinic acid based polyester polyol with a molecular weight (Mw) of 250 g/mol to 4,000 g/mol and with an NCO content of 0.5 wt % to 12 wt %, preferably of 3 wt % to 11 wt % and more preferably of 5 wt % to 10 wt %, comprising less than 0.1 wt % free MDI monomer based on the total weight of the second polyurethane prepolymer, and optionally one or more catalysts, as well as a process for producing said reactive polyurethane prepolymer composition, a method for adhesively joining or sealing two substrates and the use as an hot melt adhesive.
