Abstract: A Q-switched CO2 laser material processing system with acousto-optic modulators (AOM) is employed, on the one hand, inside the resonator for Q-switching the CO2 laser and, on the other hand, externally for efficient suppression of the radiation feedback between a laser and workpiece. The frequency shift of the radiation diffracted at the AOM is taken into account which exactly corresponds to the excitation frequency of the acoustic wave in the AOM crystal under the aspect of the amplification of the radiation in the active medium. Since this frequency shift significantly reduces the amplification of the radiation, it has to be avoided in the Q-switching process, which is achieved, by means of a tandem of two AOMs with identical excitation frequencies but with the acoustic waves propagating in opposite directions in the crystal. The frequency shift advantageously suppresses radiation feedback between the laser and workpiece.

Abstract: The present disclosure discloses a laser pulse delay system and a laser annealing system. The laser pulse delay system comprises: a beam splitter, a first reflective unit and a delay unit. The beam splitter is configured to split a laser beam emitted by a laser into a first beam and a second beam, such that the first beam is transmitted to the first reflective unit and the second beam is transmitted to the delay unit. The first reflective unit is configured to reflect the first beam it receives, such that the reflected first beam is transmitted to a component to be irradiated. Abstract: A method and apparatus for powering up and powering down a laser diode and its driver are disclosed. The disclosed method and apparatus enable the use of deep sub-micron CMOS technology to build a laser diode driver (LDD), while ensuring the low voltage limits prescribed by such technology are not exceeded. Abstract: A method of providing supercontinuum illumination in applications involving the excitation of fluorescence, comprising generating, at an optical pump laser, optical pump pulses at a pump pulse repetition rate; selectively controlling with an optical modulator the launch of pump pulses into a nonlinear optical element comprising an optical fiber at a variable, lower repetition rate to thereby selectively control the repetition rate of supercontinuum pulses generated within the optical fiber; and illuminating a sample with supercontinuum pulses to excite fluorescence. The supercontinuum pulses can be wavelength filtered such that the fluorescence is excited with wave length filtered supercontinuum pulses.
