摘要: A method for reversibly attaching a phase changing metal to an object, the method comprising the steps of: providing a substrate having at least one surface at which the phase changing metal is attached, heating the phase changing metal above a phase changing temperature at which the phase changing metal changes its phase from solid to liquid, bringing the phase changing metal, when the phase changing metal is in the liquid phase or before the phase changing metal is brought into the liquid phase, into contact with the object, permitting the phase changing metal to cool below the phase changing temperature, whereby the phase changing metal becomes solid and the object and the phase changing metal become attached to each other, reheating the phase changing metal above the phase changing temperature to liquefy the phase changing metal, and removing the substrate from the object, with the phase changing metal separating from the object and remaining with the substrate.

摘要: A freestanding thin film of nano-crystalline graphite is described, as well as a method of producing a freestanding thin film of nano-crystalline graphite including: providing a freestanding thin film of amorphous carbon, heating the freestanding thin film to a high temperature in an inert atmosphere or in a vacuum; and allowing the freestanding thin film to cool down, as a result of which a freestanding thin film of nano-crystalline graphite is formed. The films can be used, for example, as phase plates in a Transmission Electron Microscope.

摘要: A method for forecasting an environmental event/a type of environmental event includes acquiring at least one test data set of at least one behavioural and/or physiological parameter of a population of animals; generating a test profile based on said at least one test data set, representing behaviour and/or physiological status of the population of animals; calculating a ratio between the test profile and a first reference profile; and setting an alert, if said ratio reaches a predefined threshold value. A system for forecasting an environmental event/a type of environmental event employs at least one data acquisition unit configured to acquire at least one data set of at least one behavioural and/or physiological parameter of a population of animals; at least one profile generation unit configured to generate at least one first reference profile and/or at least one test profile wherein each profile is based on at least one data set; at least one ratio calculation unit configured to calculate at least one ratio between the at least one test profile and one of the at least one first reference profile; at least one alert unit configured to raise an alert if at least one of the at least one calculated ratio reaches a predefined threshold value.

摘要: A method assigns importance ranks to documents within repositories or databases, such as any database of documents such as books or other printed material, electronic documentation, and pages within the world-wide web. The method uses a corpus of indexed documents that has been annotated to the terms of one or more ontologies in order to assign a semantic similarity score to queries based on terms taken from the ontologies. A statistical model is used to test the significance of matches between query terms and documents or categories. The method results in an acceleration of over 10,000-fold for realistic queries and ontologies, and makes it practicable to calculate P-values dynamically or to keep database annotations and the related P-value distributions up to date by frequent recalculation.
