    摘要: A current regulator controls the electron emission from a cold cathode using closed-loop feedback from a current sensor in the cathode connection. The regulator circuit includes a cold cathode, a current-sensing element, a current-limiting element, and current-control element. Additionally, the closed-loop current regulator may comprise a reference element for generating the reference level, a circuit power supply and a cathode bias supply. The regulator and cathode may be assembled from separate components, or the entire circuit may be integrated onto a single substrate. In one embodiment, the current level is set by adjusting the reference element directly. In a second embodiment, the current level is set by adjusting the circuit power supply, so that the current level can be set remotely without the need to adjust the reference element directly. The second embodiment is preferably suited for the regulation of beam current in analytical instrumentation. In a third embodiment, the fixed reference element is replaced with a time-varying voltage signal. The current from the cathode then becomes a linear function of the time-varying reference signal. The third embodiment is preferably suited for application as an amplifying element or as the electron source in an emissive display.

    摘要: A simplified MEMS optical display device driven by electrostatic forces and associated arrays are provided for. The optical display device includes an optically transparent substrate, an optically transparent fixed electrode disposed on the substrate and a pigmented translucent film disposed on the substrate. A moveable optical shutter is affixed to the substrate and is generally aligned with the fixed electrode and the pigmented translucent film. The moveable optical shutter comprises an electrode element and a biasing element. In addition, a fixed portion attached to the substrate and a distal portion adjacent to the fixed portion defines the optical shutter. When an electrostatic voltage differential is established between the fixed electrode and the optical shutter electrode element the distal portion of the optical shutter will move to controllably regulate the pigmentation of an optical signal.

An optical or electrical coupling device comprises a first substrate and a second substrate adjacent to the first substrate having one or more optical waveguides or microstrips formed thereon. The substrates will have disposed thereon conductive microstrips and/or dielectric elements. The one or more optical waveguides or microstrips formed on the first substrate correspond to at least one optical waveguides or microstrips formed on the second substrate so as to facilitate optical coupling between the corresponding waveguides. Precise spacing between the substrates and precise spacing between the optical waveguides or microstrips facilitate the requisite optical/RF coupling.

    摘要: This invention provides a continuous display with non-uniform pixel density, forming a foveated display. A single, continuous display has a higher pixel density at the center of the display than at the periphery of the display. Where two continuous displays are used in accordance with the present invention, the central forward gaze of the viewer's image will be displayed in high resolution while the leftmost portion of the left eye display will be in low resolution and the rightmost portion of the right eye display will be in low resolution. The pixel resolution of the visual display may correspond to the visual acuity of the human eye. A foveated image display system using a continuous display with non-uniform pixel density increases the field of view while reducing the image bandwidth. A foveated image display system may be hardware-based by employing anamorphic lenses or sensors rather than relying upon image interpolation to modify the resolution of the resultant image data communicated to the continuous display with non-uniform pixel density.

    摘要: The invention relates to a reconfigurable scalable intrusion-tolerant network that is interposed between a service requesting client and a protected server to minimize the impact of intrusive events. The apparatus may include a proxy server for receiving the requests from a client and forwarding them to a protected server. Acceptance monitors receive the response from a protected server and apply one or more acceptance tests. A ballot monitor receives the result of the acceptance tests and determines a response to the client. The network may also include an intrusion sensor to detect threats to the network and a reconfigurer to alter the network forwarding scheme. Reconfiguration may include isolating network elements, creating parallel paths, implementing redundant operations, or assessing the validity of responses.

    摘要: A passive microwave component with constant impedance and electrically adjustable phase length utilizes a microstrip or stripline transmission line geometry incorporating a composite dielectric having both ferroelectric (FE) and ferromagnetic (FM) properties. These properties can be varied with externally applied electric and magnetic fields such that the phase length (or electrical length) of the line can be varied without varying the characteristic impedance of the transmission line. Thus, the component can be electrically tuned without adversely affecting the impedance match. The component can be used in microwave devices such as phase shifters, frequency filters, directional couplers, power dividers and combiners, and impedance-matching networks.
