Abstract: Methods for treatment of Duchenne's muscular dystrophy and several clinically related conditions in subjects in need thereof are provided. In further aspects, methods are provided for decreasing muscle degeneration in a subject in need thereof. In even further aspects, methods of enhancing sarcolemma stability and or/integrity in muscle cells lacking functional dystrophin in a subject in need thereof are provided. In aspects, the above-methods comprise administering a therapeutically effective amount of a composition suitable for increasing expression of a LPIN1 gene or a lipin-1 protein levels in a muscle cell of said subject; and decreasing muscle degeneration and improving exercise endurance and muscle contractile force in said subject by said step of administering.

Abstract: Computational techniques are applied to video images of polyps to extract features and patterns from different perspectives of a polyp. The extracted features and patterns are synthesized using registration techniques to remove artifacts and noise, thereby generating improved images for the polyp. The generated images of each polyp can be used for training and testing purposes, where a machine learning system separates two types of polyps.

Abstract: Gallium nitride based devices and, more particularly to the generation of holes in gallium nitride based devices lacking p-type doping, and their use in light emitting diodes and lasers, both edge emitting and vertical emitting. By tailoring the intrinsic design, a wide range of wavelengths can be emitted from near-infrared to mid ultraviolet, depending upon the design of the adjacent cross-gap recombination zone. The innovation also provides for novel circuits and unique applications, particularly for water sterilization.

Abstract: Generation of standardized noise signals that provide mathematically correct noise with no errors and no loss of data, and can generate the noise of specific environments based on the transfer function of that environment are discussed. Various embodiments can generate synthetic data sets based on natural data sets that have similar scaling behavior. Fractional scaling digital filters, containing the fractional scaling characteristics of one or more of the eleven fundamental forms of basic building block transfer functions which incorporate the scaling exponent, can be encoded on FPGA devices or DSP chips for use in digital signal processing. Fractional Scaling Digital Filters allow fractional calculus, and thus fractional filtering (e.g., fractional scaling, fractional phase shifting, fractional integration, or fractional differentiation), to be performed on any signal, represent exact filtering solutions rather than approximations, and demonstrably are extremely accurate, highly efficient, and exhibit a higher level of performance than traditional DSP filters.

Abstract: A unipolar-doped light emitting diode or laser diode is described. The diode includes a bottom region having an n-type layer, a top region having an n-type layer, and a middle region between the top and bottom regions having at least one material different from the top or bottom region forming two or more heterojunctions. The top and bottom regions create light emission by interband tunneling-induced photon emission. Systems including the unipolar-doped diode including LIDAR are also taught.
