Abstract: Described herein is a multilayered article and methods of making and using such articles. The multilayered article comprises: · (a) a microsphere layer comprising a plurality of microspheres (11) disposed in a monolayer; · (b) a bead bonding layer (12) comprising a first major surface and a second opposing major surface wherein the plurality of microspheres is at least partially embedded in the first major surface of the bead bonding layer, and wherein the bead bonding layer comprises a thermoset polyurethane, and wherein the thermoset polyurethane is derived from one or more liquid polyols; and · (c) an elastomeric layer (14) disposed on the second opposing major surface of the bead bonding layer.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a photopolymerizable composition. The photopolymerizable composition includes a) 40-60 parts by weight of a monofunctional (meth)acrylate monomer, per 100 parts of the total photopolymerizable composition; b) a photoinitiator; and c) a polymerization reaction product of components. A cured homopolymer of the monofunctional (meth)acrylate monomer has a glass transition temperature of 125 degrees Celsius or greater. The polymerization reaction product of components includes i) a diisocyanate; ii) a hydroxy functional methacrylate; iii) a polycarbonate diol; and iv) a catalyst. The polymerization reaction product includes a polyurethane methacrylate polymer. Often, the polycarbonate diol has a number average molecular weight of greater than 1,000 grams per mole (g/mol) or a weighted average of all polycarbonate diols present in the components has a Mn of greater than 1,000 g/mol; alternatively, the polyurethane methacrylate polymer has a weight average molecular weight of 8,000 g/mol or greater. An article is also provided including the photopolymerizable composition reaction product. Further, the present disclosure provides articles and methods of making articles. Methods are additionally provided, including receiving, by a manufacturing device having one or more processors, a digital object comprising data specifying an article; and generating, with the manufacturing device by an additive manufacturing process, the article based on the digital object. A system is also provided, including a display that displays a 3D model of an article; and one or more processors that, in response to the 3D model selected by a user, cause a 3D printer to create a physical object of an article.

Abstract: An optical system comprises a lightguide having an elongated recess formed therein. The recess divides the lightguide into a first lightguide section a second larger lightguide section. Light extractors are disposed in the second, but not the first, lightguide section for extracting light that would otherwise propagate within and along the second lightguide section via total internal reflection (TIR). The depth of the recess varies along its length. The inclusion of a recess having a depth that varies along its length provides design flexibility in the number and location of light source(s) used by the optical system.

Abstract: A display system including a lightguide and first and second reflective layers disposed on opposite sides of the lightguide is provided. The lightguide has opposing first and second major surfaces and includes a light extraction pattern for extracting light that would otherwise be confined and propagate within the lightguide primarily by total internal reflection. Light extracted by the light extraction pattern exits the lightguide through at least one of the first and second major surfaces of the lightguide. Each of the first and second reflective layers has an average specular reflectance of at least 50% in a predetermined wavelength range. The light extraction pattern may be repeatedly imaged by the first and second reflective layers to produce three-dimensional stacked images of the light extraction pattern.

Further, the present disclosure provides polymerizable compositions and methods of making an orthodontic article. The method includes obtaining a polymerizable composition and selectively curing the polymerizable composition to form an orthodontic article. Further, methods are provided, including receiving, by a manufacturing device having one or more processors, a digital object comprising data specifying an orthodontic article; and generating, with the manufacturing device by an additive manufacturing process, the orthodontic article based on the digital object. A system is also provided, including a display that displays a 3D model of an orthodontic article; and one or more processors that, in response to the 3D model selected by a user, cause a 3D printer to create a physical object of an orthodontic article.

Abstract: Provided compositions, films, and methods impart a low-surface energy surface to a polyurethane layer whereby contaminants to bead up on the surface to dramatically facilitate removal. At the same time, the provided articles retain excellent clarity and processibility for use in surface protection applications. Compositions having these advantageous properties derive from reacting a primary polyisocyanate; a monohydroxyl polydimethylsiloxane present in a suitable amount; and a polyol selected from the group consisting of: a caprolactone polyol, polycarbonate polyol, a polyester polyol, acrylic polyol, polyether polyol, polyolefin polyol, and mixtures thereof.

Abstract: An anti-fog coating composition is described comprising an aqueous polymeric dispersion; a crosslinker, and a surfactant. The dried and cured coating composition does not exhibit fogging within 8 seconds after being soaked in 25° C. water for 1 hour. In favored embodiments, the dried and cured coating composition does not exhibit fogging within 60 seconds after being soaked in 50° C. water for 24 hours. Also described are articles comprising the dried and cured coating composition disposed on a substrate as well as a method a providing an anti-fog coating on a substrate.

Abstract: An ionic diol has formula wherein R1 represents an alkyl group having from 6 to 18 carbon atoms; R2 and R3 independently represent alkyl groups having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R4 represents an alkylene group having from 2 to 8 carbon atoms; and R5 represents an alkylene group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms. Antistatic polymers are formed by copolymerization of monomers including a diisocyanate, an ionic diol, a polyether diol, and at least one non-ionic diols. Methods of making the antistatic polyurethanes are also disclosed.
