Abstract: A system for controlling a plurality of electric axles of a vehicle is disclosed, comprising: the plurality of electric axles, one or more motor generators associated with one or more of the plurality of electric axles, and a multi-axle controller communicatively coupled to the one or more motor generators and configured to execute software to cause the multi-axle controller to: determine a power demand of the vehicle based at least in part on one or more parameters of each electric axle and current and/or future road grade; generate a performance cost function associated with one or more performance metrics, the power demand, and/or the vehicle information; determine a power distribution among the plurality of electric axles by optimizing the performance cost function; and transmit a traction command to the one or more motor generators to control the operation of the plurality of electric axles.

Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus include a controller structured to predict a change in speed of a vehicle in advance of upcoming terrain and inhibit a coasting event if the speed exceeds a limit. In one form a velocity of the vehicle is predicted using a physics based model of the vehicle within a look ahead window in front of a vehicle. Such a look ahead window can be distance or time based. In another, speed of a vehicle is monitored during a coasting event and is compared against a threshold to determine whether to remain coasting or re-engage an engine to a driveline. The threshold is a function of road grade, and permits a larger deviation from set speed at low grade than at high grade. The function can be based on road grade and vehicle weight.

Abstract: According to one aspect of the present disclosure, a control system, apparatus, and method includes dynamic optimization of at least one of a vehicle reference speed and/or transmission gear state of a vehicle by determining current and future engine power requirements from the current and forward-looking route conditions to improve performance, drivability, and/or fuel economy of the vehicle over what is achievable through conventional gear state selection via static calibration tables and conventional shifting strategies. The selection of the vehicle reference speed and gear state can be performed independently of one another in one embodiment, and complementary of one another in another embodiment.

The electronic control system provides a first dynamically determined weighting factor in response to performing a selected one of a plurality of calculations, determines an operating mode of the engine in response to an engine load and an engine speed, selects one of a plurality of inputs in response to the operating mode of the engine to provide an interpolation weighting factor, the plurality of inputs including the first dynamically determined weighting factor and one or more predetermined weighting factors, utilizes the interpolation weighting factor to interpolate between a first set of combustion control data and a second set of combustion control data to determine a set of combustion control values, and controls operation of the engine using the set of combustion control values.
