The method involves distributing microvolumes of a sample to a plurality of microcompartments of a culture device, incubating for a time sufficient to permit at least one cell division cycle of the microorganism, then detecting the presence or absence of the microorganism in the microcompartments. Also disclosed are devices for carrying out these methods.

摘要： The present invention provides a detection article including at least one fluid control film layer having at least one microstructured major surface with a plurality of microchannels therein. The microchannels are configured for uninterrupted fluid flow of a fluid sample throughout the article. The film layer includes an acquisition zone for drawing the fluid sample into the plurality of microchannels at least by spontaneous fluid transport. The film layer also includes a detection zone having at least one detection element that facilitates detection of a characteristic of the fluid sample within at least one microchannel of the detection zone.

摘要： A light with integrated light and thermal guides, and having solid state light sources such as LEDs. The light guide includes a material having a first surface and a second surface opposite the first surface and forming an interior volume. The light guide is coupled to the LEDs for receiving and distributing light from them through the first surface, and the light is transported through the light guide until the light is extracted from the first or second surface. The light guide can include alignment features such as fiducials that mate with a base. The thermal guide is contained within the interior volume and integrated with the light guide for providing thermal conduction from the LEDs for cooling the light. The thermal guide can be vented to provide for internal cross flow of air for the cooling.

摘要： Suspended optical film assemblies including a frame, an optical film, and an elastomeric film are disclosed. The elastomeric films include a first attachment region, a second attachment region, and a free region between the first and second attachment regions. The first attachment region is affixed to the frame; the second attachment region is affixed to the optical film, so that the free region is in tension and supports the optical film within the frame. The tension in the elastomeric film free region can help maintain flatness and reduce distortion in the optical film during environmental changes that influence dimensional changes in the frame, optical film, and elastomeric film.
