摘要: A highly automated, high volume multichannel pipetting system which transfers liquid from mother plates to daughter plates, or from a fill station to daughter plates. The mother plates are stacked in one set of stacker assemblies, while the empty daughter plates are stacked in another stacker assembly. A plate handling assembly which is capable of moving the plates in three orthogonal directions retrieves the plates from the stacker assemblies, carries them to the pipetting head, and returns them to other stacker assemblies. The pipetting head is removable for replacement or repair thereof, or for insertion of another head assembly having a different number of pipetting channels. The head slides into the housing on slideways, and is retained in place by manually operable, threaded knobs mounted on shafts. The stacker assemblies include a chimney which is removable from a base. The plates may be stacked in the chimney and then inserted on the base. The base includes solenoids whose arms are retractable to permit plates to be retrieved or replaced one at a time. The chimneys contain flaps which serve to retain the plates within the chimney if manually removed from the base. Doors in the stacker chimneys allow manual insertion and replacement of plates. Methods of operation of the pipetting system are also disclosed.

摘要: A wavelength reading apparatus for a monochromator comprises a monochromator utilizing a dispersion element for dispersing light in accordance with its wavelengths, a dispersion element driver unit for rotating the dispersion element to effect the tuning wavelength scanning operation of the monochromator and a wavelength counter for adding or subtracting a pulse, which is produced each time when the tuning wavelength of the monochromator changes by a predetermined wavelength increment, depending on whether the wavelength increases or decreases. The wavelength counter is set to a predetermined counting value, in response to a wavelength calibrating pulse produced when the tuning wavelength of the monochromator reaches a predetermined value, so that any counting value of the wavelength counter correctly represents the instant value of the tuning wavelength of the monochromator.

摘要: An arc welding method using a welding material having a low transformation temperature, characterized in that it is carried out by the use of a shielding gas consisting of a rare gas alone or a mixed gas of a rare gas and a small amount of an oxygen gas; and an additional welding method using a welding material having a low transformation temperature, characterized in that it is carried out while moving a weld line in the form of a straight line. The former method allows the enhancement of a Charpy value in combination with improved fatigue strength, and the latter allows the experience of heat history of the material having a low transformation temperature to be suppressed, resulting in the prevention of weld crack in combination with an improved fatigue strength.

摘要: Fluorescent dye is added to a sample including lymphatic cells stimulated by antic bodies to measure fluorescence polarization. The fluorescence polarization varies with time. The measurement is stopped after a predetermined measurement time, and the lymphatic cells are separated from the sample by filtering. In order to determine the fluorescence polarization in a filtering process, approximate equations of the reaction are determined based on the fluorescence polarization measured during the reaction process. Based on the approximate equations, the fluorescence polarization in the filtering process is calculated. The reaction process is approximated by both an approximate linear line and an approximate curve. A reaction data at a predetermined future time is calculated based on the two approximate functions so that a reliability of the resulting data is improved.

摘要: The present invention provides an apparatus for transferring a microplate having a plurality of wells arranged in a matrix of lengthwise and crosswise rows relative to stationary dispenser nozzles spaced at regular intervals in the crosswise direction for dispensing a liquid matter into the wells. The number of the nozzles being smaller than the number of the wells in each crosswise row of the microplate. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the number of the nozzles corresponds to half the number of the wells in a crosswise row. The apparatus comprises, a support plate on which the microplate is mounted, a means for transferring the support plate forward and backward in the lengthwise direction, and a means for shifting the support plate in the crosswise direction between a first position in which each of the odd or even wells in crosswise rows of the microplate is aligned with correspondingly one of the nozzles in the lengthwise direction, respectively, and a second position in which each of the even or odd wells in crosswise rows of the microplate is aligned with correspondingly one of the nozzles in the lengthwise direction, respectively.

摘要: An improved water jacket structure for a cylinder head that assists in transferring heat from a lower wall of the cylinder head to coolant flowing through passageway in the head. The passageway is defined in the cylinder head by the lower wall and an upper wall. The lower wall provides a plurality of cylinder top walls that overlie corresponding ones of the cylinders in the engine block. The upper wall includes a series of ribs that extend from the upper wall toward the lower wall. The ribs include an inlet rib, and a set of interconnected ribs. The interconnected ribs are disposed between adjacent cylinder topwalls. The set of interconnected ribs have first ends that are connected to one another, second ends that are spaced from one another, and a lower edge that is spaced a predetermined distance from the lower wall.
