    摘要: A method is provided for creating gated filament structures for a field emission display. A multi-layer structure is provided that includes a substrate, an insulating layer, a metal gate layer positioned on a top surface of the insulating layer and a gate encapsulation layer positioned on a top surface of the metal gate layer. A plurality of gates are provided and define a plurality of apertures on the top of the insulating layer. A plurality of spacers are formed in the apertures at their edges on the top surface of the insulating layer. The spacers are used as masks for etching the insulating layer and form a plurality of pores in the insulating layer. The pores are plated with a filament material to create a plurality of filaments. The pores can be overplated to create the plurality of filaments. The filaments are vertically self-aligned in the pores.

    摘要: A display apparatus includes an array of light modulators. Each light modulator has a first actuator configured to drive the light modulator into a first state and a second actuator configured to drive the light modulator into a second state. The display apparatus also includes a control matrix including, for each light modulator in the array, a single actuation voltage interconnect. The actuation voltage interconnect is configured to apply a first drive voltage to the first actuator of the light modulator and apply a second drive voltage to the second actuator of the light modulator. In addition, the actuation voltage interconnect is configured to control application of a data voltage to a latch circuit to control the application of the first and second drive voltages to the first and second actuators.

    摘要: This invention relates to display apparatuses having an array of light modulators for transmissively displaying an image and a reflective aperture layer defining a plurality of apertures, for reflecting light not passing through apertures in the reflective aperture layer away from the array. The reflective aperture layer is formed on a first substrate and positioned adjacent the array. The image is formed by modulating light passing through the apertures in the reflective aperture layer. A light guide, separated from the first substrate by a gap, may guide light towards the reflective aperture layer. A layer of low-refractive index material may be positioned on a side of the reflective aperture layer opposite the array.
