Abstract:
An organic material with a porous interpenetrating network and an amount of inorganic material at least partially distributed within the porosity of the organic material is disclosed. A method of producing the organic-inorganic thin films and devices therefrom comprises seeding with nanoparticles and depositing an amorphous material on the nanoparticles.
Abstract:
A hybrid organic-inorganic thin film is provided. The hybrid organic-inorganic thin film comprising: an organic-phase comprising a porous organic nanostructure comprised of an interpenetrating network having at least one dimension between 0.1 and 100 nm; and an inorganic phase at least partially distributed within the porosity of the organic phase. In a first aspect, the organic phase has a first band gap and the inorganic phase has a second band gap different from the first band gap. A method of producing an organic-inorganic energy harvesting device and a device therefrom comprising the hybrid organic-inorganic thin film is provided.
Abstract:
Composites comprising at least one silicon-oxy-carbide (SOC) layer deposited onto a polymeric matrix substrate to enhance their thermo-oxidative stability are provided. The SOC layer is formed onto the polymeric matrix substrate by atmospheric plasma deposition to produce an thermo-oxidative barrier coating or an adhesion-promoting layer to enable the deposition of a variety of known (or future developed) metallic and/or ceramic materials as oxygen and/or thermal barriers.

Abstract:
Forming and depositing a high temperature inorganic coating on a polymeric composite substrate surfaces having deposited thereon an interlayer, and articles produce therefrom. Methods of providing functional properties to said composites are also disclosed.
Abstract:
An interlayer configured for a composite substrate surface, the interlayer having a higher concentration of at least one first chemical element at the interface of the substrate surface and the innermost interlayer surface and a higher concentration of at least one second chemical element at the outermost interlayer surface is disclosed. Methods of forming the interlayer and providing functional properties to said composites are disclosed.
Abstract:
An apparatus may comprise a plasma deposition unit, a movement system, and a mesh system. The plasma deposition unit may be configured to generate a plasma. The movement system may be configured to move a substrate under the plasma deposition unit. The mesh system may be located between the plasma deposition unit and the substrate in which a mesh may comprise a number of materials for deposition onto the substrate and in which the plasma passing through the mesh may cause a portion of the number of materials from the mesh to be deposited onto the substrate.
Abstract:
An article comprising a thickness of a first film from a surface of the article, the first film having a gradient chemical composition within at least a portion of the thickness of the first film in a vertical and/or horizontal direction relative to the surface of the article, and methods and systems for producing same.
