摘要: The present invention provides a method and device for non-invasive anatomical and systemic cooling, fluid removal and/or energy removal. The method and device provide for removal of fluid and cooling of various bodily fluid-containing spaces or surfaces, such as mucus-containing spaces or surfaces via delivery of a dry fluid not including a coolant into or upon the mucus-containing space or surface. Exposure of such mucus to the dry fluid results in evaporation of body fluid, removal of energy, cooling of the anatomical feature, and systemic cooling. In this fashion, therapeutic hypothermia may be achieved to provide for neuroprotection of various organs after ischemic insult, such the brain after cardiac arrest. Similarly, excess fluid removal may be achieved for treatment of cardiogenic shock or other conditions that cause significant fluid build-up, especially in cases of compromised renal function. Additionally, the invention may be used to reduce fever, and other conditions where removal of heat, energy and/or water are beneficial.

摘要: A method for maintaining and/or increasing body temperature of a patient may involve delivering heat to a first location on a limb of the patient, delivering heat to a second location on the limb, apart from the first location, and applying intermittent compression to a third location on the limb, located between the first location and the second location. A device for maintaining and/or increasing body temperature of a patient may include a sleeve for positioning over at least part of one of the patient's limbs, first and second heat delivery members coupled with the sleeve, and an intermittent compression member coupled with the sleeve between the first and second heat delivery members.

摘要: Methods for cerebral cooling are described. Cooling assemblies include elongate tubular members, a reservoir containing a pressurized fluid, and a manifold connecting the reservoir and elongate tubular members. After insertion of the elongate tubular members into the patient's nostrils, a pressurized fluid is delivered onto a surface of the patient's nasal cavity through a plurality of ports in the elongate tubular members. The delivery of the fluid causes cooling by direct heat transfer through the nasopharynx and hematogenous cooling through the carotids and the Circle of Willis.

摘要: Methods for treating a migraine by cooling a patient's nasopharyngeal cavity are described. In one method, a cooling assembly is inserted into a nasal cavity through a patient's nostril. The cooling assembly includes a flexible balloon defining a chamber and a first elongate tubular member having a lumen in fluid communication with the chamber. A liquid having a temperature between about −20° C. and about 37° C. is infused through the lumen of the first elongate tubular member into the chamber, wherein the flexible balloon expands to place it in contact with the nasal cavity. In another method, an elongate member having a plurality of ports is inserted into the nasal cavity. A perfluorocarbon spray and a gas are then delivered onto a surface of the nasal cavity through the plurality of ports.

摘要: This present invention is for cooling the forehead, face and armpit of a person or imparting cool feeling. The cooling member comprises a water-absorbing material sheet sandwiched between a flexible planar material provided with a ventilation means, having an adequate hardness, and capable of holding its shape, capable of being bent in a predetermined direction and in the reverse direction a plurality of times, and having a curvature in the predetermined direction and backing cloth having a similar area and a means for dividing the water-absorbing material sheet into parts each having an adequate area corresponding to a vent in such a way that water absorbed in the water absorbing material sheet does not flow out easily into adjacent parts and is used for cooling by allowing the water absorbing material sheet to absorb water and by using its heat of evaporation to cool the surroundings. The cooling member constitutes a brim portion of a hat, a sun visor or the like, or a pad portion for the forehead, face or armpit of the person and provides a means for imparting a cool feeling to each heat generating portion of the human body.As preparation for use, the cooling member is dipped into water and bent by applying a force reversely to the curvature in the predetermined direction. Consequently, excess water and water drops are squeezed out easily and uniformly with only the cooling member without wetting the hand of the person.

摘要: A method for transpulmonary cooling by providing a liquid having a boiling point of 38-300° C., more preferably 38-250° C., more preferably 38-200° C., more preferably 38-150° C., more preferably 38-80° C. The liquid is nebulized to form a mist. The mist is optionally cooled below room temperature and delivered to the airway of a patient so that the patient inhales the mist. The mist causes systemic cooling by evaporative heat loss when inhaled at room temperature and additionally by direct heat transfer when inhaled below room temperature. Compositions and medical devices for transpulmonary cooling are also provided.

摘要: The invention is a method, inclusive of its associated device or apparatus, of more effectively cooling the human body by the process of an enhanced evaporation process. The method provides for the spraying a generally wide pattern of a fine mist spray of de-mineralized water on the skin to be cooled from either a non-pressurized container having a manual pump spray for discharging the water from the container, or a pressurized container having a propellant mixed with the de-mineralized water, where the pressurized container further has a manually operated actuator for discharging the water from the container. In the latter case, the propellant is one of nitrogen, carbon dioxide and air, preferably nitrogen.
