摘要: A hypertension preload treatment formulation for limiting ingested sodium from entering the bloodstream and method of using the same. The hypertension preload treatment formulation is provided in an oral dosage from. The hypertension preload treatment formulation comprises a therapeutically effective dosage of a sodium-binding agent and an excipient. The sodium-binding agent is a resin comprising a polystyrene cross-linked chain structure formulated to sequestering sodium cations in the resin for later excretion. Methods of binding dietary sodium and treating or preventing hypernatremia in a hypertensive patient are also provided.

摘要: The invention provides a method of ameliorating inflammation in a patient involving administering to the patient a therapeutically effective dose of composition including polystyrene divinyl benzene copolymer and a polyvinyl pyrrolidone polymer. More particularly, the method relates to using these polymers as an enteral sorbent preparation to remove inflammatory mediators, such as cytokines, from the intestinal lumen. The polymers can be in the form of a preparation of polystyrene divinyl benzene copolymer beads with a biocompatible polyvinyl pyrrolidone polymer coating.

摘要: Embodiments of the invention relate to an extracorporeal perfusion apparatus comprising an extracorporeal blood circuit for conveying blood, a filtrate circuit for conveying blood plasma, and a controller, wherein the filtrate circuit is connected to the extracorporeal blood circuit by means of a filter, wherein the filter has a sieving coefficient of 5% for substances having a molar mass of 340,000 g/mol (relative molecular mass of 340 kDa), and wherein a depletion agent comprising a first carrier having a neutral, hydrophobic surface is arranged in the filtrate circuit, wherein the perfusion apparatus comprises a dispensing means for feeding an endotoxin-binding lipopeptide into the extracorporeal blood circuit, wherein the endotoxin-binding lipopeptide is selected from the group consisting of polymyxins, polymyxin derivatives, prodrugs thereof, and a combination thereof.
