    摘要: Disclosed herein are a process for the preparation of a carboxylated arylene thioether oligomer, in which an alkali metal sulfide is caused to act on a poly(arylene thioether) so as to depolymerize the poly(arylene thioether), thereby preparing an alkali thiolate-containing oligomer, and a carboxylating agent is then caused to act on the alkali thiolate-containing oligomer, thereby forming the carboxylated arylene thioether oligomer, and a process for the production of an arylene thioether copolymer, wherein the carboxylated arylene thioether oligomer alone, which has been obtained in accordance with this preparation process, or a mixture of the carboxylated oligomer in an amount of at least 50 wt. % and another carboxylic compound in an amount less than 50 wt. % is reacted with an alkylenediol or an alkylenediol and a polyester or an alkylene diol and a lactone.

    摘要: Disclosed herein is a biaxially oriented paraphenylene sulfide block copolymer film showing a heat shrinkage of 0-2.0% at 100.degree.-220.degree. C., comprising a paraphenylene sulfide block copolymer essentially composed of recurring units (A): ##STR1## and recurring units (B): ##STR2## the molar fraction of recurring units (A) being 0.50-0.98, and having a melt viscosity (.eta.*) of 1,000-15,000 poises as measured at 310.degree. C. and shear rate of 200 sec.sup.-1, a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 20.degree.-80.degree. C., a crystalline melting point (Tm) of 250.degree.-285.degree. C. and a crystallization index (Ci) of 15-45 (measured with the non-stretched heat-treated polymer film), and a process for producing the biaxially oriented paraphenylene sulfide block copolymer film.

    摘要: A process for the addition of pendant groups to polyarylenes comprises the steps of charging a reaction vessel with a solution of a polyarylene and a Friedel-Crafts catalyst; said polyarylene having the formula ##STR1## adding to the reaction vessel a pendant forming group G, wherein G is selected from the group consisting of sulfonyl halides, sulfonamide halides, alkylhalides, acylhalides and phosphorus acid halides; heating the contents of the reaction vessel to form a substituted polyarylene having the formula ##STR2## and thereafter recovering the substituted polyarylene. The substituted polyarylenes are novel and have utility as a semipermeable membrane and a process for the separation of gases therewith is also provided.

    摘要: A process for preparing a poly(arylene sulfide) and copolymer thereof from a poly(arylene sulfide disulfide) is provided which comprises contacting the poly(arylene sulfide disulfide) with a polyhalo-substituted cyclic compound having unsaturation between adjacent ring carbon atoms and having halogen atoms attached to the ring carbon atoms in a polar organic compound and a basic compound at an elevated temperature. Alternatively, the poly(arylene sulfide disulfide) can be substantially dissolved in the polar organic solvent at elevated temperature to form fragments which can be contacted with the polyhalo-substituted cyclic compound in a polar organic compound and a basic compound at an elevated temperature. The fragments also can be isolated, recovered and then contacted with the polyhalo-substituted cyclic compound in a polar organic compound and a basic compound at an elevated temperature.
