    摘要: Crosslinked polymer compositions comprise a first synthetic polymer containing multiple nucleophilic groups covalently bound to a second synthetic polymer containing multiple electrophilic groups. The first synthetic polymer is preferably a synthetic polypeptide or a polyethylene glycol that has been modified to contain multiple nucleophilic groups, such as primary amino (—NH2) or thiol (—SH) groups. The second synthetic polymer may be a hydrophilic or hydrophobic synthetic polymer which contains, or has been derivatized to contain, two or more electrophilic groups, such as succinimidyl groups. The compositions may further comprise other components, such as naturally occurring polysaccharides or proteins (such as glycosaminoglycans or collagen) and/or biologically active agents. Also disclosed are methods for using the crosslinked polymer compositions to effect adhesion between a first surface and a second surface; to effect tissue augmentation; to prevent the formation of surgical adhesions; and to coat a surface of a synthetic implant.

    摘要: A process produces a cationic polymer having a cholesterol-lowering activity, which the process includes a step for subjecting a water-soluble monomer component essentially including a cationic monomer to aqueous polymerization so that the viscosity of a polymerization reaction solution is 1,000 cps or more and less than 300,000 cps at the point of time when a polymerization rate reaches 90%, a step for continuing the polymerization until the polymerization rate exceeds 95%, a step for ultrafiltrating the obtained aqueous polymer, a step for concentrating the ultrafiltration treated solution under reduced pressure at a temperature of the solution lower than 100° C., and a step for drying the concentrated solution under a specific condition. The production process can attain both the safety as a drug and a satisfactory production efficiency.

    摘要: A method for coating a textile includes applying a substantially water-free, energy-curable, polymer-forming composition to the textile and exposing the textile and composition to a source of energy under such conditions as to generate chemically active sites on the surface of the textile and polymerize the composition. The resulting polymer is grafted onto the textile. Preferably, the energy is derived from electron beam radiation. The composition includes an epoxy oligomer having at least two ethylenically unsaturated moieties, and at least one alkoxylated polyol monomer having at least two ethylenically unsaturated moieties and capable of being copolymerized with the epoxy oligomer. Preferably, the composition also includes a surface active agent capable of rendering the uncured composition dispersible in water. Optionally, the composition can contain a colorant, and photoinitiator. The composition is especially suitable for use as a screen printing ink and coating material for textiles.

    摘要: The invention relates to a process for using nitric acid to oxidize polyarylene sulfide to polyarylene sulfoxide, oxidizing at least 98% of the sulfide groups of the polyarylene sulfide to sulfoxide groups. According to the invention polyarylene sulfide is treated with nitric acid at a concentration of from 60 to 80% with heating. The polyarylene sulfoxide prepared by the novel process can be used as an excellent chemical blowing agent for foaming thermoplastics.

    摘要: A hot melt adhesive composition can be made using a polyester derived from 2-hydroxy-propanoic acid (lactic acid). A biodegradable/compostable thermoplastic resin can be formulated into a hot melt adhesive using a lower molecular weight material as a tackifying resin. The adhesive material can be made pressure sensitive and can be made entirely biodegradable by combining the polyester polymer with other biodegradable/compostable ingredients. The biodegradable/compostable adhesive material can be used as a substitute for non-biodegradable materials made from commercial polymers that resist attack by bacteria, fungi and other microbial populations. The resulting adhesive composition can be used in a variety of applications such as packaging and for the manufacture of disposable articles which are made from degradable materials. The entire disposable article can be made from adhesives and structural materials that are fully biodegradable/compostable.
