摘要: The present invention provides an automotive tire containing from 0.1 wt % to 50 wt % hydrophobic nanocellulose. Hydrophobic nanocellulose may include lignin-coated nanocellulose and/or a chemically modified surface to increase hydrophobicity. The nanocellulose may include cellulose nanofibrils and/or cellulose nanocrystals. The nanocellulose may be introduced into tire components such as inner liner, body ply, sidewall, beads, apex, belts, treads, cushion gum, and textile fabric. The nanocellulose may be obtained from a biomass-fractionation process utilizing an acid catalyst, a solvent for lignin, and water to generate a lignin-containing nanocellulose precursor, followed by mechanical treatment of the nanocellulose precursor to produce the nanocellulose. For example, the nanocellulose may be obtained from the AVAP® process. The tire may further include one or more additional components derived from lignocellulosic biomass. For example, the tire may contain lignin-derived carbon black, lignin-derived antioxidants, or biomass-derived silica. The tire may also contain synthetic polymers derived from biomass sugars.

摘要: Processes disclosed are capable of converting biomass into high-crystallinity, hydrophobic cellulose. In some variations, the process includes fractionating biomass with an acid (such as sulfur dioxide), a solvent (such as ethanol), and water, to generate cellulose-rich solids and a liquid containing hemicellulose and lignin; and depositing lignin onto cellulose fibers to produce lignin-coated cellulose materials (such as dissolving pulp). The crystallinity of the cellulose material may be 80% or higher, translating into good reinforcing properties for composites. Optionally, sugars derived from amorphous cellulose and hemicellulose may be separately fermented, such as to monomers for various polymers. These polymers may be combined with the hydrophobic cellulose to form completely renewable composites.

摘要: A powder coating composition includes: a film-forming resin; a lignin polymer that is substantially free of sulfonate or sulfonic acid groups; and a crosslinker reactive with functional groups of the film-forming resin and the lignin polymer. The lignin polymer includes at least 5 weight % of the powder coating composition, based on the total solids weight of the powder coating composition. Further, when cured to form a coating, the film-forming resin and lignin polymer react and chemically bond with the crosslinker to form a binder of the coating.

摘要: A lignosulfonate dispersion self-healing polyurea coating and a preparation method therefor. The coating is obtained by reacting the following components in parts by mass: 1-10 parts of microcapsules of a lignosulfonate-embedded healing agent; 10-100 parts a polyurea prepolymer; 20-120 parts of a mixed solution of an amino-terminated polyether and a sterically hindered amine chain extender. The preparation method for the coating comprises the steps of at room temperature, adding a mixed solution of microcapsules of a lignosulfonate-embedded healing agent, an amino-terminated polyether and a sterically hindered amine chain extender into a polyurea prepolymer and reacting same at room temperature for 10 min-4 h. The self-healing polyurea coating may be applied to the field of material surface protection, i.e., corrosion resistance of steel structures, especially marine steel structures.

摘要: In this study, commercially available softwood lignin was esterified with tall oil fatty acid (TOFA) and tested as barrier material in fiber-based packaging material. The modified lignin samples were applied with a bar coater forming an even coating on the paperboard substrate. A significant decrease in WVTR and OTR value was observed for paperboard coated with the modified lignin as well as pure TOFA used as a reference. In contrast to the TOFA coating, the modified lignin coatings exhibited a high and stable contact angle. The coating material did not affect the tensile strength of the paperboard. According to the results, the demonstration of the conversion of lignin into a value added product has been shown. Furthermore, the novel coating material shows promising properties for the development as sustainable barrier material in fiber-based packaging material to replace oil-placed barriers.
