    摘要: An intraocular lens with an ordered polymer system contained within a lens capsule or a membrane in the lens capsule. The ordered polymer system includes at least one negatively charged copolymer comprising hydrophilic groups, anionic groups and hydrophobic groups, and at least one positively charged copolymer comprising hydrophilic groups, cationic groups and hydrophobic groups. The at least one negatively charged copolymer and the at least one positively charged copolymer are associatively arranged through non-covalent interactions in the lens capsule or the membrane.

    摘要: A two step process for treating an oil or gas well. The first step uses a cross linking agent, such as borax, as a preliminary wash for the well following drilling. The cross linking agent cleans the well of excess mud and pre-coats the tubing and the formation surfaces with the cross linking agent. The second step introduces a cement-polymer mixture into the well. A polymer, such as for example polyvinyl alcohol, that undergoes cross linking when exposed to the cross linking agent is employed. When the polymer comes into contact with the cross linking agent in the well, cross linking of the polymer occurs. This cross linking helps to prevent fluid loss into the formation. Also, because the cross linking agent wash previously cleaned the surfaces of the tubing and the formation, better bonding between the cement and the surfaces of the tubing and the formation occurs.

    摘要: Compositions for binding organic or inorganic fibers is described. The compositions may include an aqueous solution having a pH of about 4.5 or more. The aqueous solution may include a polycarboxy polymer that is about 10%, by wt., to 100%, by wt., of a butenedioic acid or butenedioic anhydride; and a polyol. The compositions can maintain a pH of about 5 or more after being cured into a thermoset plastic with the fibers. Processes for preparing a binder composition for organic or inorganic fibers are also described. The processes may include providing an aqueous solution of polycarboxylic acid polymers, where the polymers comprise about 10%, by wt., to 100%, by wt., of a butenedioic acid or butenedioic anhydride; adding a polyol to the aqueous solution; and maintaining the pH of the aqueous solution at about 5 or more.

    摘要: A modified polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) protected with a protecting group of the present invention is one wherein an amount of high-molecular weight body components of the modified polyvinyl alcohol having a weight-average molecular weight of 250,000 or more as determined by polyethylene glycol standards according to a gel permeation chromatography is 1000 ppm or less in the modified polyvinyl alcohol. The modified PVA is prepared by removing a metal ion and an acid from the modified PVA such as acetalized PVA with ion exchange treatment and then heat-treating at 80° C. or higher. An auxiliary for fine pattern formation of the present invention comprises the aforementioned modified PVA, a water-soluble crosslinking agent, and water or a mixed solvent of water and a water-soluble organic solvent. The auxiliary for fine pattern formation is applied over a resist pattern 3 and a coated layer 4 is formed thereon. Then the resist pattern 3 and the coated layer 4 are heated and thereby an acid is diffused from the resist pattern 3 to the coated layer 4. As a result, the coated layer in the vicinity of the resist pattern surface is crosslinked and cured by the diffused acid. The coated layer is developed to form a hole pattern having crosslinked and cured layer on the resist pattern, of which the hole size is less than a limit resolution of the wavelength of a light-exposure and which have no development defects.
