摘要: A method for a combustion engine has a working cycle of three revolutions of the crankshaft. The method includes: feeding a fuel mixture into a combustion chamber of a cylinder while moving a piston from a second top dead-center to a first bottom dead-center; compressing an air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber while moving the piston from the first bottom dead-center to a first top dead-center; burning the air-fuel mixture while moving the piston from the first top dead-center to a second bottom dead-center; compressing a gas mixture in the combustion chamber while moving the piston from the second bottom dead-center to the first top dead-center; burning the gas mixture while moving the piston from the first top dead-center to the first bottom dead-center; and expelling the gas mixture from the combustion chamber while moving the piston from the first bottom dead-center to the second top dead-center.

while operating the engine in the four-stroke operation mode, identifying that a critical situation applies or is expected to apply, in which a fast downshift of the transmission is required,
initiating a downshift process in response to the identification of the critical situation,
during at least a part of the downshift process, increasing an engine speed by controlling at least the mutually independently operable valves of the engine such that the engine is temporarily operated in a two-stroke operation mode.-

The opposed piston two stroke also offers an option of a novel cylinder deactivation design. Both, two stroke and four stroke engines share novel systems for coupling piston reciprocation to shaft rotation, piston and piston ring lubricant distribution, and provision for reacting out piston side load with minimum mechanical friction.

摘要: A method for controlling a two-stroke engine operatively connected to a turbocharger, the turbocharger being in fluid communication with the engine to provide a boost pressure thereto, the method including: comparing one of (i) an actual power output of the engine; and (ii) an exhaust temperature representative of an actual temperature of exhaust gas being discharged by the engine, with a corresponding threshold value thereof; in response to the one of the actual power output of the engine and the exhaust temperature being less than the corresponding threshold value: determining a corrective amount of boost pressure to add to the boost pressure of the turbocharger; and controlling the turbocharger to increase the boost pressure of the turbocharger by the corrective amount. Another method for controlling a two-stroke engine operatively connected to a turbocharger is also disclosed.

摘要: A two-stroke engine possesses a cylinder, in the cylinder bore of which a combustion chamber is formed. The combustion chamber is bounded by a reciprocating piston, which drives a crankshaft rotatably mounted in a crankcase. A crankcase interior is fluidically connected to the combustion chamber across at least one transfer channel in at least one position of the piston. The at least one transfer channel emerges with a discharge opening in the crankcase interior and with at least one transfer window on the cylinder bore. It is proposed that all transfer channels have an average length as measured from the discharge opening to the transfer window, the average length being at least 1.5 in relation to the stroke, and that the volume of the crankcase interior including all transfer channels is at most 3.1 in relation to the piston displacement.

摘要: The present invention relates to a two strokes per cycle Scotch Yoke engine that completes four power strokes per revolution per pair of pistons/cylinders by using both sides of each piston as a combustion chamber. This doubles the power to weight ratio over previous scotch yoke engines and quadruples the power to weight ratio over conventional 4 stroke cycle engines. The present invention is capable of operating in and withstanding the forces of either deflagration (subsonic) and pulse detonation (supersonic) cycles, and is capable of homogeneous charge compression ignition. The present invention can also be an internal/external combustion gas/steam hybrid. The present invention can operate under constant volume or constant pressure cycles as well as most thermal cycles of operation (EG the Otto and Diesel cycle). The present invention works best when using a modified Humphrey cycle to achieve homogeneous charge compression ignition pulse detonation engine using constant volume combustion.
