Abstract: A peritoneal dialysis (“PD”) system includes a cycler including an actuation surface having a peristaltic pump actuator; at least one pair of capacitive sensing plates; a manifold assembly including a rigid manifold having at least one chamber, the rigid manifold configured and arranged to be abutted against the actuation surface for operation, wherein the at least one pair of capacitive sensing plates is positioned to be operable with the at least one chamber; a peristaltic pump tube; and a control unit configured to actuate the peristaltic pump actuator to pump dialysis fluid to the at least one chamber, receive a signal from the at least one pair of capacitive sensing plates, count a number of revolutions of the peristaltic pump actuator, determine a current volume per revolution for the peristaltic pump actuator, and use the current volume per revolution for a subsequent operation of the peristaltic pump actuator.

Abstract: A medicament preparation system includes a water purification module and a medicament proportioning module that is interoperable with a replaceable fluid circuit. The fluid circuit includes a purified water inlet, a product medicament outlet, and a plurality of pumping tube segments. At least a first concentrate container is connected by at least a portion of the fluid circuit to the product medicament output and a first concentration measurement sensor station is positioned in a flow path. A controller is programmed to calculate iteratively a concentration of a first concentrate from the first concentrate container and the purified water from a signal generated by the first concentration measurement sensor station and to regulate one or both of a first pumping actuator engaged with the first pumping tube segment and a second pumping actuator engaged with the second pumping tube segment, responsively to the concentration of the first concentrate and water.

Abstract: A peritoneal dialysis system includes a cycler comprising a control unit and a pump actuator. The peritoneal dialysis system also includes a disposable set operable with the cycler and in fluid communication with a source of water made suitable for peritoneal dialysis (“WFPD”) and a source of concentrate. The disposable set includes a pumping cassette comprising a pump chamber configured to be actuated by the pump actuator and a mixing container. The control unit is programmed to cause (i) the pump actuator to operate the pump chamber to pump a first amount of the WFPD to the mixing container, (ii) the pump actuator to operate the pump chamber to pump a prescribed amount of concentrate from the concentrate source to the mixing container, and (iii) the pump actuator to operate the pump chamber to pump a second amount of the WFPD to the mixing container.

Abstract: A patient connector for dialysis is disclosed. In an example, a patient connector includes a housing including an inlet and an outlet and defining at least one aperture. The patient connector also includes a seal initially blocking the outlet and a hydrophobic filter covering the at least one aperture of the housing. The patient connector further includes a check valve positioned and arranged to prevent air from being vented from the housing via the at least one aperture and through the hydrophobic filter when the housing is under atmospheric pressure or negative pressure. The check valve is configured to allow air to be vented from the housing via the at least one aperture and through the hydrophobic filter when the housing is under positive pressure.

Abstract: A system including a pumping cassette having a first side including number of valve wells and second side having a fluid bus. Each side may be covered by a flexible membrane. A control surface having a number of valve well control stations actuatable with respect to the flexible membrane covering the first side of the cassette to open and close the valve wells when the cassette is mated against the control surface may be included. A pressure distribution assembly having a positive and negative pressure source and a number of pneumatic valves may be included. A controller configured to selectively actuate the number of pneumatic valves to apply pressure against the valve well control stations in a valve pumping sequence until a volume displaced through the fluid bus of the pumping cassette from a source to a destination is within a range of a target volume may be included.

Abstract: A personalized chronic care apparatus is disclosed herein. An example apparatus includes a server operating over a network, software stored on the server, and a compliance entry feature configured to receive compliance information related to a patient. The software includes an automated learning method for creating an overall kidney maintenance plan that specifies one or more controllable variables as actions performed by the patient to prevent or reduce complications associated with chronic kidney disease (“CKD”). The automated learning method is configured to perform an evaluation to determine whether a selected controllable variable is to be included in the overall kidney maintenance plan by confirming when (i) a worsening of kidney function is not determined between first evaluation data and second evaluation data over a testing period, and (ii) the compliance information provides a confirmation that the selected controllable variable was modified over the testing period.

Abstract: A dialysis machine (e.g., a peritoneal dialysis (PD) machine) can include a safety feature that enables the dialysis machine to automatically identify the connections made by a user in preparation for treatment. A smart connector is disclosed that uses a split RFID device that is operational when a first portion of the connector is mated to a second portion of the connector, and is not operational when the first portion is disconnected from the second portion. In an embodiment, the split RFID device incorporates an RFID chip in the first portion of the connector and an antenna in the second portion of the connector. In an embodiment, the RFID chip can store a tag that encodes information that indicates a formulation or a volume of a dialysis bag connected to the ports of a disposable cassette such that the dialysis machine can automatically discover the configuration of the dialysis setup.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a disposable set for operation with first and second concentrate containers in fluid communication with first and second concentrate container connectors. The disposable set includes a pumping cassette comprising at least a first concentrate port and a second concentrate port. The disposable cassette also includes a first concentrate line in fluid communication with the first concentrate port and a second concentrate line in fluid communication with the second concentrate port. The first concentrate line terminates at a first concentrate line connector having a first configuration for mating with the first concentrate container connector. The second concentrate line terminates at a second concentrate line connector having a second, different configuration for mating with the second concentrate container connector, such that the first concentrate line connector cannot mate with the second concentrate container connector and the second concentrate line connector cannot mate with the first concentrate container connector.

Abstract: A hemodialysis system is disclosed. The hemodialysis system includes a dialyzer and an online dialysate generation system comprising a water inlet line and a drain line. The hemodialysis system also includes a disposable set comprising a supply tube fluidly connected to online dialysate generation system and a dialysate pumping tube fluidly connected to the dialyzer. The hemodialysis system further includes a dialysis instrument comprising a dialysate pump head and a motor positioned and arranged to operate the dialysate pump head. The dialysis instrument operates the dialysate pump head to move fresh dialysate from the online dialysate generation system through the dialysate pumping tube to the dialyzer.

Abstract: A dialysis system may include a blood circuit, a cassette, a subsystem having a processor, a sensor, and a blood pumping mechanism, a housing in which the subsystem is arranged, a movable support arranged in the housing and configured to hold the sensor and/or the blood pumping mechanism of the subsystem, a cassette holder configured to removably receive the cassette, and a loading system. The loading system may be configured to move the movable support, e.g. by an axial movement, to a first position and to a second position relatively to the housing while the cassette holder is fixedly arranged in the housing. The loading system may have an electric motor controlled by the processor, a drive assembly coupled to the electric motor, and a guiding assembly configured to cooperate with the drive assembly.
