Abstract: The present invention is a composition for forming an organic film, containing: (A) a polymer having a repeating unit represented by the following general formula (1); (B) a resin for forming an organic film; and (C) a solvent, where R in the general formula (1) represents a saturated or unsaturated divalent organic group having 2 to 30 carbon atoms. This provides: a composition for forming an organic film which is excellent in film-formability (in-plane uniformity) on a substrate (wafer) and filling property and in which humps in an EBR process are suppressed; a method for forming an organic film, using the composition; and a patterning process.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a mineral fibre thermal insulation product comprises the sequential steps of:
Forming mineral fibres from a molten mineral mixture;
Spraying a substantially formaldehyde free binder solution on to the mineral fibres, the binder solution comprising: a reducing sugar, an acid precursor derivable from an inorganic salt and a source of nitrogen;
Collecting the mineral fibres to which the binder solution has been applied to form a batt of mineral fibres; and
Curing the batt comprising the mineral fibres and the binder which is in contact with the mineral fibres by passing the batt through a curing oven so as to provide a batt of mineral fibres held together by a substantially water insoluble cured binder.-

Abstract: Some variations provide a sensing system configured to measure the concentration of an antimicrobial agent in a polymer, comprising: a polymer containing (i) a discrete solid structural phase comprising a solid structural polymer and (ii) a continuous transport phase comprising a solid transport polymer and capable of containing the antimicrobial agent; and an antimicrobial-agent sensor that chemically senses the antimicrobial agent. The antimicrobial-agent sensor is disposed on a surface of, and in mass transport with, the polymer. The antimicrobial-agent sensor contains a responsive material disposed on or within a carrier material. The responsive material is chemically reactive with the antimicrobial agent and exhibits an observable and quantifiable property change upon chemically reacting with the antimicrobial agent. The observable and quantifiable property change may involve chromaticity, optical transparency, ionic conductivity, or electronic conductivity, for example. Some variations provide methods of making and/or using the sensing system.

Provided is a method for providing an antimicrobial surfactant, comprising the steps of: (a) providing a hyperbranched polyurea having blocked isocyanates at the end of the polymer branches by the polycondensation of AB2 monomers; (b) introducing tertiary amine groups by reacting said blocked isocyanates of the hyperbranched polyurea with a tertiary amine compound that is functionalized with —OH, —NH2, —SH, or —COO—; and (c) quaternization of said tertiary amine groups by reacting with an alkylating agent to obtain a quaternized hyperbranched polymer having antimicrobial surfactant properties.

Abstract: A modified surface with at least one cationic center and at least one compound. The surface can be modified by various methods. The result of these methods is that the cationic center and the compound are connected to the modified surface. The cationic center and the compound are connected to the modified surface so that both of the cationic center and the compound are available upon the modified surface to react with other chemicals or microorganisms that come into contact with or near to the modified surface. The availability of the cationic center and the compound cause the modified surface to have a functionality that it would not otherwise have. The number of molecules of the cationic center relative to the number of molecules of the at least one compound may influence the functionality of the modified surface.
