Abstract:
A process for improving the storage life of a one-component silicone paste containing an alkali metal phosphate and which cures with elimination of acetic acid on exposure to atmospheric moisture, which comprises adding to such paste an acidic additive bearing the functional group --SO.sub.3 H or hydrogen chloride in a concentration sufficient to convene the alkali metal phosphate into the alkali metal salt of the acidic additive.
Abstract:
Inhibition of popcorn polymer growth by treatment with a sulfur-containing compound. The sulfur-containing compound can be added to organic material from which popcorn polymer is formed, or applied to extant popcorn polymer.
Abstract:

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a composition comprising a polymeric engineering resin selected from the group consisting of polycarbonates, polyarylethers, polyamides, polyesters, polyacetals, polyaryl sulfides, cellulose esters and styrene copolymers; and an amount of an organic sulfide antioxidant sufficient to stabilize the resin against oxidative or thermal degradation during processing and use, the organic sulfide antioxidant being represented by Formula I, II, or III: ##STR1## wherein m, n, R, R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.5, R.sup.6, R.sup.7 and R.sup.8 are as set forth in the Summary of the Invention.
Abstract:
An antioxidant system comprises at least one ascorbyl ester stabilized with at least one complexing agent and at least one thiol. The antioxidant system is usefully employed in fatty body containing compositions such as cosmetic or alimentary compositions.
Abstract:
Described is a novel process which can be carried out as a single-stage synthesis for the production of substituted and/or b,d- ortho-fused thiophenes. Serving as starting compounds and .alpha.-methylene ketones which are reacted in an preferably alcoholic solvent with bromine whereafter the formed intermediate product after separation from the solvent is reacted directly with a sulphurising agent. Preferably under reflux conditions in a suitable solvent to form the end product. In this way also hitherto unknown ortho-fused thiophene compounds are synthesized more especially those with 5 or 9 rings condensed with one another.
Abstract:
The novel 5,6-sulfinyl-L-ascorbic acid and its stereoisomers, their manufacture by sulfinylating L-ascorbic acid or corresponding stereoisomers, compositions having oxidation-inhibiting properties which contain 5,6-sulfinyl-L-ascorbic acid or a stereoisomer thereof as well as the use of 5,6-sulfinyl-L-ascorbic acid or a stereoisomer thereof as an antioxidant are described.
Abstract:
There are disclosed polymerizable thioester synergists which have utility in enhancing the antioxidative activity of phenolic and amine stabilizers. The invention is also concerned with the thioesters themselves, their use in oxidizable organics, their combination with polymerizable and/or conventional antioxidants, and with polymers which contain these thioesters as physical admixtures or segmeric units of the polymer.
Abstract:
A method for preventing fouling of equipment used in hydrocarbon processing is provided comprising adding to said hydrocarbon a polyalkyleneoxy sulfoxy salt represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a linear alkyl radical having from about 6 to 15 carbon atoms or an alkyl phenyl radical wherein the alkyl group contains from about 8 to 10 carbon atoms, R.sub.1 is H or CH.sub.3, n is a number from 3 to 8, x is 3 or 4 and M.sup.+ is an ammonium or an alkali metal cation. An antifouling formulation is also provided which comprises an alcohol-water dispersion of the above antifouling agent and a surfactant comprising a fatty acid dialkanol amide.
Abstract:
An oxygen absorbent composition consisting essentially of (a) an oxygen absorbent comprising a dithonite as a main component and (b) a fiber material in an amount of from about 1 to about 50 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the oxygen absorbent and a process for producing the same are disclosed.
