The trunnion includes a radially stepped bore formed therein and extending between first and second ends of the trunnion. The first portion of the bore has a diameter which is less than an outside diameter of the tube, so that the tube engages the trunnion in an interference fit throughout the first portion of the bore. The stepped bore further includes a second axially extending, generally cylindrical portion having a diameter which is greater than the diameter of the first portion of the bore and greater than the outside diameter of the tube, so that the tube does not engage the trunnion in an interference fit in the area corresponding to the second portion of the bore. The trunnion further includes at least one radially extending hole formed therethrough and intersecting the second portion of the stepped bore.

This invention provides a differential gear that permits a sure differential limitation effect to be obtained with a simple structure and that is both compact in size and low in price. That is, when a rotational difference occurs on a pair of output-side rotary bodies arranged in opposite form to each other on the shaft center of an input-side rotary body, a differential rotation of each output-side rotary body is achieved by interconnecting the rotary motion of each output-side rotary body by means of numerous grooves and numerous balls fitted to these grooves. At this time, when the force necessary to cause a rotational difference is given to each output-side rotary body only from one output-side rotary body, the balls or grooves of the driven side at differential rotation cause the grooves or balls of the driving side to follow their own motion on the other output-side rotary body. Consequently, the reaction force caused at this time acts as a resistance to limit the differential rotation of each output-side rotary body. Accordingly, this invention permits a very stable differential limitation effect of torque sensitizing type to be obtained without requiring any special mechanism for this purpose.

A speed increasing/decreasing mechanism is interposed between a left-wheel axle and a right-wheel axle. The mechanism is constructed integrally of a speed increasing mechanism and a speed decreasing mechanism. The speed increasing mechanism is adapted to increase a rotational speed of the left-wheel axle and then to output the thus-increased rotational speed to a first intermediate axle. The speed decreasing mechanism, on the other hand, is adapted to decrease a rotational speed of the left-wheel axle and then to output the thus-decreased rotational speed to a second intermediate axle. A first coupling of the variable transmitted torque capacity type is interposed between the first intermediate axle and the right-wheel axle to transmit drive torque therebetween. A second coupling of the variable transmitted torque capacity type is interposed between the second intermediate axle and the right-wheel axle to transmit drive torque therebetween.
