Abstract:
An edible and/or chewable article of manufacture containing at least one food grade substance having adsorption affinity towards at least one dental plaque (biofilm) constituent and capable of reducing and/or removing the oral biofilm while present in the mouth. Particular articles of manufacture are chewing gums, sweets, candies, candy, and other nutritional bars, ice creams, chocolates, confectionery and bakery/pastry products, honey, dairy products and beverages, and oral hygiene products such as tooth pastes, oral gels and mouthwashes. A chewing gum having a conventional gum base and at least one food grade active substance having adsorption affinity towards at least one dental plaque (biofilm) constituent (bacteria and proteins and bacterial cell-free enzymes) and capable of reducing and/or removing the oral biofilm while present in the mouth. Active substances include polysaccharides and non-toxic salts thereof, such as alginates, chitosan, carboxymethylcellulose, agar and carrageenan, inorganic substances such as silica, hydroxyapatite and calcium carbonate and proteins, particularly gelatin and lectin. The article of manufacture removes and/or for prevents or reduces dental plaque (biofilm), and controlling oral, dental and periodontal diseases.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a novel process for preparing sol-gel microcapsules loaded with up to 95% (w/w) functional molecules or substances and to the products obtained by said process. Said process is conducted in two steps: (a) creating an oil-in-water emulsion by emulsification of a water insoluble solution comprising the sol-gel precursors and the molecules to be loaded, in an aqueous solution under appropriate shear forces; (b) mixing and stirring said emulsion with an aqueous solution at a suitably selected pH to obtain loaded sol-gel microcapsules in suspension. The microcapsules so obtained can further be subjected to cycles of isolation and rinsing. Incorporation of the final product, either in the form of a suspension or a powder, in cosmetic formulations affords a transparent cream when applying to skin and has a smooth and pleasant contact.
Abstract:
The invention provides a storage stable lyophilized collagen product comprising acid soluble purified native collagen in combination with platelet derived growth factors and a pharmaceutical composition for enhancing wound healing comprising an aqueous solution of water soluble acid-soluble purified native collagen and platelet derived growth factors.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a liquid coloring composition comprising of a coffee solution or coffee extract and an ink vehicle. The coloring composition is suitable for use as an ink in a non-impact printing device, including an ink jet type printer. The composition is composed of edible components. The invention further provides a process for applying a design to a food substrate, comprising of providing a non-impact printing device, wherein the ink cartridge or external container contains the coloring composition of the invention.
Abstract:
Provided is a composition including a plurality of multi-metallic nanoparticles each consisting essentially of a core including at least one first metal (Me1) and a continuous shell including atoms of at least one second metal (Me2). Optionally, the continuous shell of Me2 atoms protects the Me1 atoms from oxidation at all temperatures less than 150° C.
Abstract:
Paint formulations having a high absorptivity with respect to solar radiation are disclosed herein. The disclosed paint formulations are also thermally and mechanically durable, thereby enabling the paint formulations to be used on components in solar thermal applications where exposure to high temperatures and environmental conditions may be an issue. The paint formulation can include an oxide-based pigment, an organic binder, one or more additives, an inorganic filler, and/or an organic solvent. The pigment can have a relatively high absorptivity with respect to light having a wavelength in the range from 250 nm to 3000 nm. Curing of the paint formulation can irreversibly convert the organic binder into an inorganic binder.
Abstract:
The invention provides compositions and methods for prevention, treatment, or management of pulmonary hypertension using piperidine, pyrrolidine, or azepane derivatives comprising one to four nitric oxide (NO) donor groups and a reactive oxygen species (ROS) degradation catalyst. The invention further provides a water dispersible powder comprising nanoparticles comprising said derivatives, as well as pharmaceutical compositions thereof and methods of use.
Abstract:
The invention provides processes for the manufacture of conductive transparent films and electronic or optoelectronic devices comprising same.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for preparing an aqueous-based dispersion of metal nanoparticles comprising: (a) providing an aqueous suspension of a metal salt; (b) pre-reducing the metal salt suspension by a water soluble polymer capable of metal reduction to form a metal nuclei; and (c) adding a chemical reducer to form metal nanoparticles in dispersion. The invention further relates to aqueous-based dispersions of metal nanoparticles, and to compositions such as ink comprising such dispersions.
Abstract:
A therapeutic, cosmetic or cosmeceutic composition for topical application, capable of stabilizing an active ingredient and delivering the active ingredient, comprising a plurality of microcapsules having a core-shell structure. The microcapsules have a diameter of approximately 0.1 to 100 micron. The core of each microcapsule includes at least one active ingredient, and is encapsulated within a microcapsular shell. The shell is comprised of at least one inorganic polymer obtained by a sol-gel process, and the shell protects the active ingredient before topical application and is designed to release the active ingredient from the microcapsules following application. The composition is useful in encapsulating active ingredients, such as benzoyl peroxide, that are unstable in other formulation, or are irritating to the skin.
