    摘要: A trim component (1) for an automobile or the like includes a substrate (2) and two different cover materials such as a cover film (3) and a cover cloth (4). The two cover materials (3, 4) are not spliced together, but instead are independently adhesively bonded directly onto the substrate (2) by a hot-melt contact adhesion. The junction (7) is received in a valley (6) of the substrate (2) that is pinched closed during molding of the trim component. For forming the trim component, a molding apparatus includes a horizontally movable pinching stamp (13) that forms a pinching gap (16) relative to a protruding edge (11A) of a fixed mold tool (11). A tucking blade (22) presses the substrate and junction (7) of the cover sheets into the pinching gap (16), and is then retracted while the pinching stamp (13) pinches closed the pinching gap (16). This forms a tightly closed valley (6) in the substrate (2) with the junction (7) cleanly pinched therein, without leaving a gap and without requiring a trim strip to be applied thereon.

    摘要: An interior trim component such as a vehicle dashboard includes a substantially rigid and form-stable substrate of polypropylene and natural fibers, a supporting halo skeleton and other frame components heat fused onto the backside of the substrate, and a polyolefin foam layer as well as a decorative polyolefin cover film laminated onto the front side of the substrate. The foam layer has an increased thickness and a decreased foam density at sharply contoured or curved areas of the trim component, in comparison to the flat surfacial areas. As a result, the trim component has a desirable soft-touch characteristic and impact absorbing properties at all areas including protruding curves and edges. A method for forming such a trim component involves steps of pre-molding the foam layer and cover film by vacuum thermoforming, pre-molding the substrate by vacuum thermoforming, and then heat laminating the pre-heated, pre-molded substrate onto the pre-molded foam layer and cover film. The sharply curved or contoured areas of the component are provided with a greater tolerance spacing between the substrate and the cover film, which are held to the respective mold contours by vacuum. Under the effect of heat and the applied vacuum, the foam layer expands to have a greater thickness and a lower density in these sharply contoured areas.

    摘要: In a method of manufacturing trim panels which are made of several trim components or trim materials, such as door trim panels of automobiles, the trim panel is essentially finished in a single work operation in one work station. A vinyl cover film (12) is formed, trim inserts (10, 11) are laminated into the cover film with the aid of a nesting die (8a, 8b), soft-touch inserts (26) are laminated underneath the cover film and the so produced laminate is further laminated onto a rigid substrate (2 or 2'). The substrate may be a prefabricated substrate (2), or may be a rigid foam substrate (2') back-foamed onto the formed vinyl film (12). An apparatus for carrying out the method is essentially a forming station with an upper form or mold (1) and a lower form or mold (15). The lower mold (15) includes nest dies (8a, 8b) for securely holding and then pressure laminating the trim inserts (10, 11), whereby a high placement precision of the inserts (10, 11) is achieved. The present method and apparatus are simpler, faster, and less labor-intensive, and achieve better results than prior methods and apparatus in the art.
