Abstract: The present disclosure includes systems and methods for supporting polar codewords with variable polar codeword lengths. Variable codeword length codewords are communicated using an n-bit encoder/n-bit decoder having n inputs and n corresponding outputs. Each input and each corresponding output is associated with a bit index. A set of bit indices to be shortened are selected. The encoder encodes n input bits to obtain n output bits. Each output bit that is associated with a bit index from the set of bit indices to be shortened is ignored. A codeword is generated from all of the remaining output bits.

Abstract: Devices and methods of joint antenna panel switching and beam selection are generally described. A user equipment (UE) can be configured to decode configuration information received via a higher layer for a plurality of receive (Rx) beams for the UE, the configuration information identifying a plurality of Rx beam indices for the plurality of Rx beams. The UE is configured to decode a physical layer (PHY) communication indicating an antenna panel index and an Rx beam index of the plurality of Rx beam indices, the antenna panel index identifying an antenna panel of a plurality of available antenna panels of the UE. The UE is configured to decode a downlink (DL) data transmission, wherein the DL data transmission is received using the antenna panel and a selected Rx beam of the plurality of Rx beams corresponding to the indicated Rx beam index.

Abstract: A method for a communication device with at least one antenna array composed of a plurality of antenna elements, each of the plurality of antenna elements coupled to a corresponding phase shifter of a plurality of phase shifters. Abstract: Briefly, in accordance with one or more embodiments, an apparatus of a user equipment (UE) comprises baseband circuitry including one or more processors to decode a secondary synchronization signal (SSS) or a beam reference signal (BRS) received from an evolved Node B (eNB) to select a Tier-1 sector for receiving downlink transmissions from the eNB, decode a downlink control channel message received from the eNB at one or more fixed time offsets after the UE decodes the SSS to obtain index information for the Tier-1 sector to identify the Tier-1 sector, and if the Tier-1 sector has changed initiate a random access procedure to select an updated Tier-1 sector, and generate an updated Tier-1 sector index message to report to the eNB.
