Each of the plurality of battery cells may include a battery cell vent. The venting assembly may include a lid designed to be coupled to the housing and disposed over the battery cells in the housing. In some embodiments, the lid includes a vent chamber formed in the lid and designed to receive and direct gases vented from the plurality of battery cells away from the battery module.
Abstract:
A battery module includes a housing configured to receive a plurality of electrochemical cells, a skeletal frame coupled with the housing, and a framework disposed proximate to the skeletal frame. Moreover, the framework is substantially aligned with the skeletal frame and configured to transfer a force applied to the framework to the skeletal frame.
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to bonding or sealing metal parts to the polymer packaging of certain battery modules. The present disclosure includes a battery module having a polymer packaging with an interior and exterior and a plurality of battery cells disposed within the interior of the polymer packaging. The battery module includes a metal part that extends from the interior to the exterior of the polymer packaging and is in thermal or electrical contact with at least a portion of the plurality of battery cells. The metal part includes a bonding surface that is secured to an overmolded portion of the polymer packaging, wherein the bonding surface has a microsurface roughness that hermetically seals the bonding surface of the metal part to the overmolded portion of the polymer packaging.

Abstract:
A lid assembly for use in a battery module includes a lid with apertures extending through the lid in a vertical direction, where each of the apertures is configured to receive a terminal of a battery cell of the battery module. The lid assembly also includes one or more extensions extending away from the lid in the vertical direction. Each of the one or more extensions is configured to couple the lid to a printed circuit board assembly of the battery module. The lid assembly also includes walls extending away from the lid in the vertical direction. Each of the walls is configured to extend between a first terminal of a first battery cell and a second terminal of a second battery cell.
Abstract:
The present disclosure includes a battery module having a first electrochemical cell with a first terminal and a second electrochemical cell having a second terminal. The battery module also includes a bus bar connection electrically connecting the first and second electrochemical cells. The bus bar connection includes a first adapter covering at least a portion of the first terminal of the first electrochemical cell, where the first adapter includes a first recess positioned proximate to the first terminal, and a second adapter covering at least a portion of the second terminal of the second electrochemical cell, where the second adapter includes a second recess positioned proximate to and at least partially aligned with the first recess. Further, the bus bar connection includes a bus bar that spans between the first recess of the first adapter and the second recess of the second adapter to create an electrical path.
Abstract:
A battery plate assembly for a lead-acid battery is disclosed. The assembly includes a plates of opposing polarity each formed by an electrically conductive grid body having opposed top and bottom frame elements and opposed first and second side frame elements, the top frame element having a lug and an opposing enlarged conductive section extending toward the bottom frame element; a plurality of interconnecting electrically conductive grid elements defining a grid pattern defining a plurality of open areas, the grid elements including a plurality of radially extending vertical grid wire elements connected to the top frame element, and a plurality of horizontally extending grid wire elements, the grid body having an active material provided thereon. A highly absorbent separator is wrapped around at least a portion of the plate of a first polarity and extends to opposing plate faces. An electrolye is provided, wherein substantially all of the electrolyte is absorbed by the separator or active material. A method for assembling a battery is also disclosed.
Abstract:
The present disclosure includes a battery module having a power assembly that includes a plurality of battery cells and a plurality of bus bars that electrically couples a terminal of each of the plurality of battery cells to a terminal of an adjacent battery cell of the plurality of battery cells. The battery module also includes a lead frame that includes a plurality of cell taps respectively electrically coupled to the plurality of bus bars of the power assembly, and a plurality of leads that extends from the plurality of cell taps. The lead frame also includes a plurality of broken interconnects that electrically isolates the plurality of cell taps from one another and electrically isolates the plurality of leads from one another.
Abstract:
The present disclosure includes a battery module having a first electrochemical cell and a second electrochemical cell positioned adjacent to the first electrochemical cell. The battery module also includes a separator plate disposed between the first electrochemical cell and the second electrochemical cell. The separator plate includes a body comprising a first side and a second side opposite the first side. The first side is disposed adjacent a first face of the first electrochemical cell and includes a first indention. The first indention defines a first space between the first face of the first electrochemical cell and the first side of the separator plate. The first space is configured to enable swelling of the first electrochemical cell into the first space.
Abstract:
The present disclosure includes a battery module that includes a plurality of lithium ion battery cells disposed within a battery module packaging. Each of the plurality of lithium ion battery cells is individually held in place within the battery module packaging by a restraining medium. The restraining medium conformally covers a substantial portion of the surface of each of the plurality of lithium ion battery cells and prevents each of the plurality of lithium ion battery cells from expanding during operation of the battery module.
