摘要: A minimally invasive circulatory support platform that utilizes an aortic stent pump or pumps is described. The platform uses a low profile catheter-based techniques and provides temporary and chronic circulatory support depending on the needs of the patient. Also described is a catheter-based temporary assist pump to treat patients with acute decompensated heart failure and provide circulatory support to subjects undergoing high risk percutaneous coronary intervention. Further described is a wirelessly powered circulatory assist pump for providing chronic circulatory support for heart failure patients. The platform and system are relatively easy to place, have higher flow rates than existing systems, and provide improvements in the patient's renal function.

摘要: An implantable pump system is provided, suitable for use as a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) system, having an implantable pump, an extracorporeal battery and a controller coupled to the implantable pump, and a programmer selectively periodically coupled to the controller to configure and adjust operating parameters of the implantable pump. The implantable pump includes a flexible membrane coupled to an actuator assembly that is magnetically engagable with electromagnetic coils, so that when the electromagnetic coils are energized, the actuator assembly causes wavelike undulations to propagate along the flexible membrane to propel blood from through the implantable pump. The controller may be programmed by a programmer to operate at frequencies and duty cycles that mimic physiologic flow rates and pulsatility while operating in an efficient manner that avoids thrombus formation, hemolysis and/or platelet activation.

摘要: A model of flow through a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) can be used for preoperative planning of implantation of the LVAD into a patient and/or optimization of the LVAD after implantation into the patient are described. At least one imaging data set related to a patient and at least one physiological data set related to the patient can be received. An ideal parameter related to the LVAD can be determined based on the at least one imaging data set related to the patient, the at least one physiological data set related to the patient using a model of circulation in a large spatial region of the patient's body and a three-dimensional anatomical model of at least one component of the region of the patient's body and at least one component of the LVAD. Flow patterns within the three-dimensional anatomical model are calculated using computational fluid dynamics.

摘要: A blood pump is disclosed. The blood pump apparatus is arranged to provide pulsatile flow, and comprises a flexible inner cylindrical duct providing a blood flow region, and an outer cylindrical duct arranged to surround the inner cylindrical duct and arranged to accommodate a pumping fluid. In the pump the inner cylindrical duct is described as comprising a blood inlet for receiving blood into the region, a blood outlet for passing blood out from the blood flow region and a passageway therebetween. There is also described the feature of the inner duct comprising a non return valve at the blood inlet and a non return valve at the blood outlet, the outer cylindrical duct having a fluid port for a pumping fluid, and a pump device arranged to cyclically deliver and withdraw pumping fluid to the fluid port thereby cyclically compressing and expanding the flexible inner cylindrical duct urging blood through the blood flow region and delivering a pulsating blood flow through the blood outlet.

摘要: A ventricular assist device including a frame having a proximal end and an outer surface, and an anchor having a base and a brace coupled to the base. The base is attached to the proximal end of the frame. The device also includes a stator assembly coupled to the frame, a rotor assembly disposed between the stator assembly and the frame, and a power source operatively coupled to the stator assembly. The anchor is moveable between a collapsed configuration in which an inner surface of the brace contacts the outer surface of the frame, and an expanded configuration, in which the inner surface of the brace is offset from the outer surface of the frame and an outer surface of the brace engages a portion of the blood vessel to secure the frame within the blood vessel.

摘要: Mechanical circulatory supports configured to operate in series with the native heart are disclosed. In an embodiment, a centrifugal pump is used. In an embodiment, inlet and outlet ports are connected into the aorta and blood flow is diverted through a lumen and a centrifugal pump between the inlet and outlet ports. The supports may create a pressure rise between about 40-80 mmHg, and maintain a flow rate of about 5 L/min. The support may be configured to be inserted in a collinear manner with the descending aorta. The support may be optimized to replicate naturally occurring vortex formation within the aorta. Diffusers of different dimensions and configurations, such as helical configuration, and/or the orientation of installation may be used to optimize vortex formation. The support may use an impeller which is electromagnetically suspended, stabilized, and rotated to pump blood.

摘要: An improved valve leak detection system. The improved valve leak detection system comprises a membrane pump defining a flow path arranged to be opened and closed by at least one valve, a measuring device, a comparator, and a signal generator. The measuring device is configured to determine a conductivity value between two points on the flow path of the membrane pump, one point arranged upstream of the at least one valve and the other point arranged downstream of the at least one valve. The measuring device measures the conductivity value when the at least one valve is closed. The comparator is configured to continuously monitor the conductivity value. The signal generator is arranged to provide an output signal when the conductivity value is indicative of a valve leak condition for a set number of measurements within a set period of time.

摘要: The disclosure provides a method of placing a cardiac drainage cannula into a patient's heart. In some embodiments, the method comprises the steps of (a) inserting the cannula percutaneously into an internal jugular vein, (b) advancing the cannula through the internal jugular vein and into the right atrium of the heart, and (c) advancing the cannula through the atrial septum into the left atrium of the heart. Further aspects of the disclosure provide a method of draining blood from the left atrium or left ventricle of a patient's heart using a cardiac drainage cannula. The disclosure also provides a cardiac drainage cannula and a mechanical circulatory support system.

摘要: Method and systems control a rotational speed of a blood pump during ventricular diastole. A mechanical circulatory assist system includes a blood pump and a controller. The controller is operable to control a rotation rate of the blood pump in accordance with a first operational mode, monitor a blood flow rate through the blood pump, detect that the blood flow rate through the blood pump during ventricular diastole has decreased to or below an initiation blood flow rate, and, in response to detecting that the blood flow rate through the blood pump during ventricular diastole has decreased to or below an initiation blood flow rate, increase the rotation rate of the blood pump to prevent the blood flow rate through the blood pump during ventricular diastole from falling below a target minimum blood flow rate.
