Abstract:
A valve assembly for use with a flexible container, in which the valve assembly is anchored to the flexible container. The valve assembly provides for the egress of fluid from the flexible container such that the interior surfaces flexible container do not block or otherwise prevent fluid flow or fluidic communication between the interior of the flexible container and the valve assembly. The portion of the valve assembly within the interior of the flexible container includes a support structure that prevents the walls of the flexible container from collapsing down on, and blocking either completely or in part, fluid flow through the opening of the valve inside of the flexible container.
Abstract:
Conjugates of 1,3-bis(1,4,7-triazacyclonon-1-yl)-2-hydroxypropanes with a variety of conjugating members are used in the formation of dinuclear metal complexes which bind to phosphate esters. By virtue of their conjugated forms, the complexes are incorporated into chromatographic media, affinity binding reagents, and dyes, which make the complexes useful in a wide range of assays, separations, and purifications. In addition, dinuclear metal complexes of 1,3-bis(1,4,7-triazacyclonon-1-yl)-2-hydroxypropanes that are not so conjugated are used in the detection of phosphate esters of biological species by either MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry or by dye displacement.
Abstract:
Method of making a droplet-generating device. In the method, a first droplet-generating device may be produced. The first droplet-generating device may include a molded portion created at least in part with a mold and also may include a plurality of droplet generators each formed at least in part by the molded portion. A set of droplets may be generated with each of one or more of the droplet generators. A property of at least one set of generated droplets may be determined. The mold may be modified based on the property. A second droplet-generating device may be produced that includes a molded portion created at least in part with the modified mold.
Abstract:
System, including apparatus and methods, for aspirating at least a portion of an emulsion from a well using a tip. In some embodiments, the tip may have a flat end and an inlet surrounded by the flat end. The well may have a floor with one or more surface features that prevent uninterrupted circumferential contact of the flat end of the tip with any region of the floor. In some embodiments, the tip may not have a flat end. In some embodiments, the well may have a port that guides the tip to the floor with the tip slanted with respect to the floor. Methods of making a device that includes the well are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A system for holding sample tubes used in immunoprecipitation and similar laboratory techniques. A rack comprises top and bottom plates spaced apart from each other and defining rows of holes to receive the sample tubes and hold the sample tubes in a pair of spaced-apart rows. A magnet holder is configured to slide between the top and bottom plates and between the two parallel rows of sample tubes such that when the magnet holder is fully inserted between the rows of sample tubes, magnets held by the magnet holder align with the sample tubes in the two parallel rows.
Abstract:
A method of characterizing telomere length. A template may be synthesized in a bulk phase reaction mixture containing genomic DNA. Partitions may be formed after synthesizing the template in the bulk phase reaction mixture, with only a subset of the partitions containing at least one copy of the template. At least a region of the template may be amplified in partitions. Amplification data may be collected from partitions. A measure of telomere length may be determined for the genomic DNA based on the amplification data. In some embodiments, the bulk phase reaction mixture may be thermally cycled for at least two cycles, and heated to a denaturation temperature and cooled to an annealing temperature in each cycle.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is an apparatus for debubbling or degassing a liquid. The apparatus includes a tube with a hollow lumen and a gas-permeable, liquid-impermeable wall surrounding the lumen. Also disclosed is a method for performing the debubbling or degassing, wherein the liquid is passed through the tube and gas is allowed to escape through the wall of the tube. The application additionally discloses a system for debubbling or degassing a liquid, wherein a pump is connected to the upstream end of the tube and a device to impede the flow of liquid out the tube is connected to the downstream end.
