Abstract: Additive manufacturing methods use a surrogate slurry to iteratively develop an additive manufacturing protocol and then substitutes a final slurry composition to then additively manufacture a final component using the developed additive manufacturing protocol. In the nuclear reactor component context, the final slurry composition is a nuclear fuel slurry having a composition: 30-45 vol. % monomer resin, 30-70 vol. % plurality of particles of uranium-containing material, >0-7 vol. % dispersant, photoactivated dye, photoabsorber, photoinitiator, and 0-18 vol. % (as a balance) diluent. The surrogate slurry has a similar composition, but a plurality of surrogate particles selected to represent a uranium-containing material are substituted for the particles of uranium-containing material. The method provides a means for in-situ monitoring of characteristics of the final component during manufacture as well as in-situ volumetric inspection. Compositions of surrogate slurries and nuclear fuel slurries are also disclosed.

Abstract: A shear band that may be used e.g., in a non-pneumatic tire is provided. The shear band uses interlaced reinforcing elements positioned within a shear layer of elastomeric material. A variety of configurations may be used to create the interlaced positioning of the reinforcing elements including e.g., a horizontal diamond or vertical diamond configuration. The shear layer formed from a rubber composition having a very low hysteresis.

Abstract: A surface modified and functionalized carbon black for use in a rubber compound suitable for tire tread compounds which can be described as a surface modified low hysteresis carbon black. The modified carbon black contains a chemical consisting of at least one amine group and at least one thiol group and/or di- and/or polysulfidic linkage. The surface modified low hysteresis carbon black in a representative rubber tire tread compound shows improved rolling resistance, improved wet traction, and improved or maintained abrasion resistance, being superior to compounds containing N234 carbon black or silica. The improved tire rolling resistance obtained by using a compound containing a surface modified low hysteresis carbon black is highly desirable for reduced CO2 emissions, reduced pollution, sustainability, and protection of the environment.
