摘要: In an internal combustion engine, inside of an engine exhaust passage, an NOx adsorption part and an NOx purification part are arranged. The NOx purification part has the property of reducing NOx which is contained in exhaust gas if the concentration of hydrocarbons is made to vibrate by within a predetermined range of amplitude and within a predetermined range of period. When NOx is to be desorbed from the NOx adsorption part, the current NOx which is contained in the exhaust gas and the NOx which is desorbed from the NOx adsorption part are reduced by making the concentration of hydrocarbons of the NOx purification part vibrate by the amplitude and period which are set for the current engine operating state, at least of which (ΔT·k) has been corrected so that the amount of hydrocarbons becomes greater.

摘要: An internal combustion engine wherein an exhaust purification catalyst and a hydrocarbon feed valve are arranged downstream in an exhaust passage. A first NOX purification method, which removes NOX by making a concentration of hydrocarbons that flows into the exhaust purification catalyst vibrate within predetermined amplitude and period ranges and a second NOX purification method which utilizes an adsorption action of NOX to the exhaust purification catalyst are used. A high pressure exhaust gas recirculation system (HPL) causing recirculation of high pressure exhaust gas and a low pressure exhaust gas recirculation system (LPL) causing recirculation of low pressure exhaust gas are provided. When performing an LPL recirculation while performing an NOX purification action by the second NOX purification method, if an acceleration operation occurs, the NOX purification action is switched to the NOX purification action by the first NOX purification method and recirculation is temporarily switched to the HPL recirculation.

摘要: A method for purifying exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine, including chemically reducing NOx that is contained in the exhaust gas when a concentration of hydrocarbons flowing into an exhaust purification catalyst is made to vibrate within a predetermined range of amplitude and within a predetermined range of period, wherein, during the chemical reduction, the NOx contained in the exhaust gas is reacted with reformed hydrocarbons to produce a reducing intermediate containing nitrogen and hydrocarbons, a reducing action of the reducing intermediate chemically reduces the NOx, and the NOx is chemically reduced without storing nitrates or with storing a fine amount of the nitrates in a basic layer of the exhaust purification catalyst.

摘要: Inside of an engine exhaust passage, in order from an upstream side, a hydrocarbon feed valve oxidation catalyst exhaust purification catalyst, and NOX selective reduction catalyst are arranged. By lowering the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing into the exhaust purification catalyst by a predetermined period while maintaining it lean, the NOX is reduced in the exhaust purification catalyst and the NOX which was not reduced at the exhaust purification catalyst is reduced by the ammonia which is adsorbed at the NOX selective reduction catalyst. The air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing into the exhaust purification catalyst is sometimes switched from lean to rich. At this time, the ammonia which was generated at the exhaust purification catalyst is adsorbed at the NOX selective reduction catalyst.

摘要: An internal combustion engine in an engine exhaust passage of which a hydrocarbon feed valve (15) and an exhaust purification catalyst (13) are arranged. If the hydrocarbon feed valve (15) feeds hydrocarbons by a period of within 5 seconds, a reducing intermediate is produced inside the exhaust purification catalyst (13). This reducing intermediate is used for NOX purification processing. At the time of engine operation, the demanded produced amount of the reducing intermediate required for reducing the NOx is calculated. The amount of production of the reducing intermediate is made to become this demanded produced amount by control of the feed amount and feed period of hydrocarbons.

摘要: An exhaust gas purification apparatus for an internal combustion engine comprises a NOx selective reduction catalyst provided in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine; an upstream side oxidation catalyst which is a catalyst having an oxidizing ability provided in the exhaust passage upstream from the NOx selective reduction catalyst and which includes a carrier for carrying a noble metal for oxidation, the carrier being formed of a basic carrier; and a reducing agent supply until which supplies a reducing agent to an exhaust gas allowed to flow into the NOx selective reduction catalyst. Accordingly, even when the oxidation catalyst causes the SOx poisoning in the exhaust gas purification apparatus for the internal combustion engine having the oxidation catalyst and the NOx selective reduction catalyst provided in the exhaust passage, the reduction efficiency of NOx reduced by the aid of the NOx selective reduction catalyst is favorably maintained.
