Before Au-plating onto the metallic surface of an electronic part, Ni-plating and then Co-plating are applied to form a primer coating for Au-plating. But in the steps of Ni and Co-platings, hydrogen gas produced during the plating is occluded into a plating layer. On the other hand, when a pellet connected onto an Au-plated metal, an Au-Si alloy is formed, but hydrogen gas in the plating layer remains as voids in the Au-Si alloy during a subsequent heating step of the electronic part, resulting in a serious defect. This invention of a plating method is characterized by annealing after Au-plating of an electronic part to eliminate the residual gas.

A method and apparatus for analyzing vapors generated from explosives in which vapors containing nitrogen monoxide and/or nitrogen dioxide are generated by decomposing explosives by increasing the temperature of the explosives, primary ions and neutral molecules are generated from air. The generated primary ions and the nitrogen monoxide and/or nitrogen dioxide contained in the generated vapors are allowed to react with each other in an area inhibited or prevented from being penetrated by the generated neutral molecules, and the nitrogen monoxide and/or nitrogen dioxide contained in the generated vapors is ionized. The ionized nitrogen monoxide and/or nitrogen dioxide is subjected to mass spectrometry, and an amount of the nitrogen monoxide and/or nitrogen dioxide contained in the generated vapors by decomposing the explosives is determined.

A first and a second long-period grating which have different periods from each other are formed in an optical fiber, ensuring that the peak wavelength of a waveform representing an optical transmission loss characteristic of the first long-period grating side is located on the shorter wavelength side than a transmission band and a peak wavelength of a waveform representing an optical transmission loss characteristic of the second long-period grating side is located on the longer wavelength side within the transmission band.

Each end face of the resin mold portion has guide pin holes which were formed with the optical waveguide core portion being used as a positioning reference. Since the guide pin holes for connection with the optical fiber connectors are formed in the resin mold portion which, preferably has some elasticity and which covers the optical waveguide component body, the guide pin holes and a substrate are not broken even if subjected to a load after connection.

A magnetoresistance sensor of this invention is designed to detect a magnetic field on the basis of a change in electric resistance of a magnetoresistance layer, and includes a substrate, the magnetoresistance layer, a magnetization stabilizing layer for stabilizing magnetization of the magnetoresistance layer, and an electrical conductive layer formed on the magnetoresistance layer or the magnetization stabilizing layer. The sensor is characterized in that the magnetoresistance layer and the magnetization stabilizing layer are stacked on each other such that the layers are magnetically coupled to each other at their two end regions with an exchange coupling force higher than that at the remaining region. With this arrangement, there is provided a magnetoresistance sensor having high sensitivity, which can apply a desired bias magnetic field to the MR layer while preventing the bias magnetic field from being disturbed by a magnetic field from a magnetic recording medium or the like.

Disclosed in an optical switching connector provided with a first and second ferrule disposed with end faces thereof abutting on each other and two reference pins disposed in parallel at a predetermined interval. The first and second ferrules have two parallel pin holes, respectively. The two reference pins are inserted in the pin holes. The pin holes have an elongated sectional shape enabling the reference pins to move laterally by exactly a certain movement pitch. The first and second ferrules are able to be positioned at one position determined by one of the inside surfaces of the pin holes being pressed against the reference pins and another position determined by the other inside surfaces of the pin holes being pressed against the reference pins. The process includes the steps of feeding a liquid onto lands on the circuit substrate, aligning and mounting the electronic device on the lands, placing the circuit substrate in a treating vessel and heating the circuit substrate. The heating step includes controlling a pressure of an atmosphere in the treating vessel, hot-melting the solder to prevent at least a portion of the liquid from evaporating until the electronic device and the circuit substrate are bonded and to permit the liquid to evaporate after the electronic device and the circuit substrate are bonded.
