Abstract: Systems and methods may provide for obtaining first wearable sensor data associated with a first fitness session and first fitness equipment and obtaining second wearable sensor data associated with a second fitness session and second fitness equipment. Additionally, an effort normalization may be conducted between one or more settings of the second fitness equipment and one or more settings of the first fitness equipment based on the first wearable sensor data and the second wearable sensor data. In one example, a user prompt is generated during the second fitness session via a user interface of one or more of the second fitness equipment or a wearable device based on the normalization.

Abstract: A method is disclosed including receiving from a user a request to associate an avatar in a computer-implemented virtual world with a wearable device, creating an association between the avatar and the wearable device in response to the request, and receiving from the wearable device activity metric data for the user generated by a sensor of the wearable device. The activity metric data is generated by the wearable device in response to the wearable device sensing the user performing an activity. The method further including determining based on the received activity metric data a type of the sensed activity, determining at least one attribute of the avatar that corresponds to the determined type of the activity, determining an amount to adjust the at least one attribute based on the received activity metric data, and adjusting the determined at least one attribute of the avatar by the determined amount.

Abstract: Examples of force sensors that may be incorporated into a number of devices or other objects are disclosed. In one example, a sensor comprises a substrate comprising a first electrode and a second electrode, the first electrode and the second electrode being spaced by an insulating gap, and a compliant material with plural conductive pathways disposed over the gap and contacting the first electrode and the second electrode such that a resistance of an electrical path passing through the compliant material between the first electrode and the second electrode changes in response to force of the compliant material against one or more of the first electrode and the second electrode.

Abstract: An adhesively coupled power-meter measures one or more of force, torque, power, and velocity of a mechanical arm. The power meter includes a plate with a first surface prepared for adhesively coupling to the mechanical arm. At least one strain gauge is physically coupled with a second surface, opposite the first, of the plate and with an orientation corresponding to an orientation of the adhesively coupled power meter such that mechanical forces are transferred from mechanical arm to the at least one strain gauge when the plate is adhesively coupled to the mechanical arm. The power meter also includes electronics for receiving a signal from the at least one strain gauge and for determining one or more of force, torque, power and velocity from the signal, and a wireless transmitter for transmitting one or more of force, torque, power and velocity to a receiving device.

Abstract: Method for coupling a sensor to a piece of equipment, such as a golf club, baseball bat, or tennis racket, that ensures that the sensor is in a known position and orientation relative to the equipment. Compensates and calibrates for degrees of freedom introduced in manufacturing and installation. The method may include manufacturing a sensor receiver that aligns with equipment in a fixed orientation, and that holds a sensor housing in a fixed orientation relative to the receiver. Remaining uncertainties in sensor position and orientation may be addressed using post-installation calibration. Calibration may include performing specific calibration movements with the equipment and analyzing the sensor data collected during these calibration movements.

Abstract: A system for measuring weight-lifting performance is described. The system comprises a collar that may be attached to a weight bar, wherein the collar comprises at least one motion sensor, at least one touch sensor, and a signal processor. The motion sensors comprise a barometric altimeter, a gyroscope, and/or an accelerometer that measure the motion of the weight bar during a lifting activity. Signals from the motion sensors are interpreted by the signal processor as physical activity data, which are then wirelessly transmitted to a multimedia device having a data processor. The data processor is configured to calculate performance metrics from the physical activity data and to display them to a user via a display on the multimedia device. Athletes may use the performance metric outputs from the data processor to monitor the form of their lifting exercises for training purposes, safety considerations, and self-improvement.
