摘要: The present application discloses a method of forming a hydrogel-coated substrate, wherein the hydrogel has antifouling and antimicrobial properties. The method comprises applying an aqueous pre-hydrogel solution to a substrate, polymerizing the aqueous pre-hydrogel solution, thereby forming a coated substrate having a conformal hydrogel coating and a non-conformal hydrogel coating, contacting the coated substrate with a swelling agent, and removing the non-conformal hydrogel coating from the coated substrate, thereby leaving the conformal hydrogel coating on the substrate to form the hydrogel-coated substrate. The aqueous pre-hydrogel solution comprises a monomer with antimicrobial activity, a monomer with antifouling activity, and either a polymer, oligomer, or macromer which, when polymerized together, form a hydrogel. Also disclosed is a coated substrate and a hydrogel coating.

摘要: Apparatus and methods for treatment of bleeding and/or microbial infection of the genitourinary tract including a catheter and an insertable and removable medicament-delivery sheath for introducing a hemostatic and/or anti-microbial substance or the like. Some embodiments further include a light-delivery sheath and/or light-delivery-and-imaging sheath having a light-propagation channel, and a source of anti-microbial and/or imaging light in one or more wavelength bands, for example UVC light and/or light in the visible violet, blue or green wavelength ranges. Some embodiments include a display for captured images, and/or a motorized sheath-movement device configured to move one or more light-output ports. Some embodiments further include a light-propagation channel built into the catheter itself (such as one or more optical fibers) for the administration of anti-microbial ultraviolet light (and/or other wavelengths of light) light along the catheter and/or at the distal end of the catheter to treat and/or prevent microbial (bacterial and/or fungal) infections.

摘要: Durable, anti-fouling, crosslinked zwitterionic coatings that are grafted to the surface of a substrate through covalent bonding are disclosed. When exposed to a light source, zwitterionic monomers react with a crosslinker and with activated radicals at the surface of the substrate, simultaneously forming the crosslinked zwitterionic coating and anchoring it to the surface of the substrate. Photomasking techniques can be used to micropattern the zwitterionic coatings. The zwitterionic coatings can be applied to a variety of substrates, including medical devices and systems.
