摘要: Systems, methods and devices to detect target substances in confined or open spaces, and from the ground or remote locations are disclosed. A system includes a radiation emission source and one or more transducers configured to detect target substances. The transducer to detect target substances includes a filter that allows various wavelengths of light to pass through while attenuates or reflects others; and one or more chambers disposed within the optical path of the filter. The transducer may also include electromagnetic radiation detectors to detect electromagnetic radiation at wavelengths different from the wavelengths transmitted by the filter. The systems, methods, and devices disclosed allow shifting the detection range of phenomena in which the detection/observation technology is not efficient to other detection ranges where detection can be optimized.

摘要: Systems and methods for sensing vibrational absorption induced photothermal effect via a visible light source. A Mid-infrared photothermal probe (MI-PTP, or MIP) approach achieves 10 mM detection sensitivity and sub-micron lateral spatial resolution. Such performance exceeds the diffraction limit of infrared microscopy and allows label-free three-dimensional chemical imaging of live cells and organisms. Distributions of endogenous lipid and exogenous drug inside single cells can be visualized. MIP imaging technology may enable applications from monitoring metabolic activities to high-resolution mapping of drug molecules in living systems, which are beyond the reach of current infrared microscopy.

摘要: A measurement method according to an example embodiment executed by a computer includes: selecting one of a plurality of sample wavelengths as a wavelength of output light of a semiconductor wavelength-tunable laser, and controlling output of the output light in such a way that the selected one sample wavelength discretely and sequentially changes with time; acquiring, for each of the plurality of sample wavelengths, an electrical signal obtained by detecting and converting interference light obtained by combining and interfering scattered light obtained by irradiating a sample with measurement light, and reference light for the measurement light and the reference light obtained by splitting the output light; and deriving a scattering profile of the sample by performing compressed sensing on the electrical signal obtained for each of the plurality of sample wavelengths.

摘要: An imaging system and method provides automated microbial growth detection for antibiotic sensitivity testing. A processing system having an image sensor for capturing images of an inoculated culture plate having antibiotic disks disposed on the culture media captures images of the plate at separate times (e.g., first and second images). The system generates pixel characteristic data for pixels of the second image from a comparison of the first image and second image. The pixel characteristic data may be indicative of plate growth. The system may access growth modeling data concerning the antibiotic disk(s) and generate simulated image data with a growth model function. The growth model function uses the growth modeling data. The simulated image data simulates growth on the plate relative to the disk(s). The system compares the simulated image and the pixel characteristic data to identify pixel region(s) of the second image that differ from the simulated image.

摘要: The disclosure discloses a cone penetrometer for detecting multi-pollutants and the corresponding method based on laser induced fluorescence (LIF) and time domain reflectometry (TDR). The cone penetrometer includes two main modules: the TDR module mainly composes of a PEEK insulating rod, two gold-coated stainless steel probes and a coaxial cable; the LIF module mainly composes of endoscope image sensor, alumina glass lens, an ultraviolet LED with a 280 nm-wavelength, and an ultraviolet LED with a 325 nm-wavelength. Detection is performed to obtain the soil dielectric constant for characterizing the volumetric water content, electrical conductivity for the content of ionic pollutants, fluorescence intensity at 325 nm-wavelength for the content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, fluorescence intensity at 280 nm-wavelength for the content of humic acid, and soil images for soil types. The disclosure is easy to carry, able to quickly identify multi-pollutants, and is suitable for in-situ deep detection in solid waste landfill sites.

摘要: A system and method for monitoring or detecting a level of biofilm growth in a fluid system and controlling operating parameters of the fluid system based a measured level of growth. The monitoring system and method comprises a dye injection system for periodically injecting dye into a portion of fluid from the fluid system, passing the portion of fluid though a narrow lumen tube to achieve laminar flow and using a light source and optical sensor to detect a transmission or emission indicating a level of biofilm growth in the tube corresponding to a level of growth on components in the fluid system. Information based upon the measurements or calculations made by the monitoring system may be used to manually or automatically alter various operating parameters to control the fluid system and aid in maintaining stable operation of the fluid system within preferred specifications.
