Abstract:
A flat display panel has a ventilation hole formed in a back glass substrate facing a front glass substrate with a space in between, and provides communication between the space and the exterior. A ventilation duct is connected to the ventilation hole and secured with a pressed frit to the outer face of the back glass substrate. The ventilation duct has a flange formed at one end thereof connected with the back glass substrate. The pressed frit having a ventilation hole is sandwiched between the flange and the back glass substrate, and fused to the flange and the back glass substrate in order for the ventilation duct to be secured to the back glass substrate.
Abstract:
In the manufacture of a gas discharge type display panel, by applying a sealing operation along with an exhausting operation, the sealing glass 14 is broken down by a pressure difference between the inside and outside of the panel, and thus, the clearance gap between the substrates can be controlled as desired. In addition, the gaseous component that is unnecessary for the discharge operation is exhausted by setting the temperature of the amorphous sealing glass to exceed its softening-point and be no more than its working point. In the structure of the gas discharge type display panel, a protruding portion having a radius of curvature between 0.1 mm and 1 mm is formed on the sealing glass to reduce the dispersion in the thickness direction of the sealing glass, or the cross-sectional shape of the sealing glass is made convex both at its inside end part and its outside end part.
Abstract:
A plasma display having a transparent front panel spaced from a back panel which is a metal core having layers of a dielectric material extending over and bonded to the core. Conductive electrodes are on the surface of or imbedded in the dielectric layer of the back panel. The materials of which the back panel is made are chosen to form a back panel having a thermal coefficient of expansion compatible with that of the front panel. The dielectric material is made from a green ceramic tape which is bonded to the core and cofired with the core to form the back panel. Barrier ribs are formed on the back panel by embossing or scribing the green tape before cofiring the bonded assembly. Slight differences in the TCEs of the front and back panels may be compensated for by heating the panel having the lower TCE to a temperature hotter than the panel having the lower TCE during the frit seal process. Alternatively, the materials for the dielectric may be chosen such that the composite TCE of the cofired assembly matches the TCE of the front panel.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for producing a patterned calcined inorganic film such as an electroconducting or insulating (non-conductive) film, particularly a plasma display panel, embracing a calcining step. To produce a patterned calcined inorganic film without inducing warpage, shrinkage of line width, or breakage of patterned lines, a patterned film formed on a substrate with a composition containing a heat decomposable binder and particles of an inorganic material is covered, prior to the calcining step, with a coating film of a heat decomposable resin composition capable of hardening or drying at a temperature lower than the temperature at which the heat decomposable binder is thermally decomposed and further capable of being burned off below the highest temperature of the calcining profile and thereafter the calcining step is performed.
Abstract:
A plasma display device is provided with one substrate having a plurality of electrode drawing-out portions extending up to a side end thereof for applying an AC voltage to X side electrodes each independently, a second substrate having a plurality of electrode terminal portions formed independently on its electrode-disposed surface, the plural electrode terminal portions being electrically connected respectively to the plural electrode drawing-out portions by a connector portion. The connection of each of the X and Y electrodes with an external power source can thus be made on only the Y side electrode-disposed surface of the second substrate. Besides, the shape of the substrates is simplified.

Abstract:
Adherence between a sealing material and a glass substrate is assured, thereby improving airtightness of a hermetic container. A manufacturing method of the hermetic container has: an assembling step of sealing a first glass substrate and a second glass substrate through a circumferential sealing material having plural straight line portions and plural coupling portions which connect the plural straight line portions so as to define an internal space between the first glass substrate and the second glass substrate; and a sealing step of maintaining the internal space to a negative pressure to an outside after the assembling step, applying such local force as to compress the coupling portions of the circumferential sealing material in a thickness direction of the sealing material, and heating and melting the sealing material by irradiating local heating light to the sealing material, to seal the first glass substrate and the second glass substrate.

Abstract:
To maximize the efficiency of utilization of mother substrates used as material for the substrates in the flat display panel to form a display screen, the flat display panel includes a display screen formed by tetragonal first and second substrates. Four sides or opposite two sides forming a tetragonal peripheral edge of the first substrate are rendered to be substantially equal to those of the second substrate, and the first and second substrate are sandwiched together with one of the first and second substrates protruding in part outwardly from the peripheral edge of the other of the first and second substrates.
