Abstract: A cooling fan module includes a frame, and a fan impeller having a plurality of fan impeller blades is located in an opening of the frame. The fan impeller blades are connected to a base portion of an outer fan ring. A lip portion of the outer fan ring extends from the base portion radially outward, and a leading end of the lip portion is turned in direction to the downstream side of the frame. A recirculating flow guiding device includes a plurality of guide vanes located on an upstream side of the frame and around the opening of the frame. An air gap is provided between the outer fan ring and the frame. A recirculating flow travels from downstream side of the cooling fan module through the air gap, and is turned by the leading end of the lip portion into the recirculating flow guiding device.

Abstract: An air guide collects air from a grille located at the front of a vehicle engine compartment to a vertical radiator located in the engine compartment and which is fixed to a vehicle chassis. The air guide includes a main casing including an upper casing and a lower casing. The upper and lower casings include an opening toward the front to receive the air. The lower casing includes at least one substantially horizontal lower wall and two substantially vertical lateral walls. The lower casing axially and transversely abut the rear portion of the lower casing of the air guide relative to the chassis of the vehicle, at least in a lateral region of the lower casing, and a local structure for controlled preferred compression of the walls of the lower casing, at least in a lower portion of the lateral region of the lower casing.

Based on the selected operating mode, each of a radiator fan speed, a coolant system pump output, a vehicle grille shutter opening, and an opening of vents coupled to a powertrain component insulating enclosure may be concurrently adjusted to minimize the cooling parasitic losses while satisfying the cooling requirements of the vehicle.

Abstract: A cooling fan shroud for an internal combustion engine has a fan port including a fixed cylindrical segment and a movable cylindrical segment mounted by a hinge. A pivot plate on the movable cylindrical segment is compressed with a base plate on a shroud main body so that a loading rib on one plate provides a frictional resistance. A dual-position locking mechanism retains the movable cylindrical segment in an extended position or a retracted position. The mechanism is comprised of a tab extending from the movable cylindrical segment and a ratchet pocket in the main body receiving the tab, wherein the ratchet pocket has a pair of stop notches separated by a deflector rib. The movable cylindrical segment is bendable to allow the tab to ride over the deflector rib in response to a predetermined pivot force applied to the movable cylindrical segment.
