Abstract: The present invention features an adduct protection assay involving the use of a labelled binding partner and a signal altering ligand. The signal altering ligand can preferentially alter the ability of label which is not part of a binding partner:analyte complex to produce a detectable signal, compared to its ability to alter signal produced from label which is part of a binding partner:analyte complex. The presence or amount of analyte can be determined by detecting the signal produced from unaltered label. The adduct protection assay is very versatile. For example, alteration of signal can be carried out under a wide range of conditions (e.g., pH, temperature, and ionic strength), and both label alteration and signal triggering can be carried out at essentially constant temperature to achieve a high degree of sensitivity.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for affixing ornamentation support members to a cord-like member, wherein the ornamentation support members include a clamp and a tangentially extending base member which is bonded to the clamp. In accordance with the invention, the base member is supported by first support surface means and the legs of the clamp are supported against outward deformation by parallel walls of a channel formed in second support means. The cord-like member is positioned within the clamp. A slide member is provided in the channel which is moveable between a rest position and a crimping position for deforming the legs of the clamp to crimp the legs about the cord-like member.

Abstract: To improve the effect of a filter circuit for the harmonics, which contains an L-C-R series resonant circuit in at least one loop, a variable supplementary current excitation which compensates the residual harmonic current in the consumer arrangement at least approximately, is coupled into the series resonant circuit, the supplementary current excitation preferably being supplied by a compensation transformer which is controlled by the current in the loop, the compensation transformer being excited by a source and controlled by an auxiliary transformer arranged in the loop.

Abstract: A coating based on diamond-like is formed from a plurality of films of diamond-like carbon formed alternatingly over one another and in this respect a film in which no portion or only a much lower portion of doped fluorine is contained. A film in which fluorine or at least fluorine with a higher portion than the film arranged thereunder or thereabove are formed alternatingly over one another. The coating could be manufactured by using a target of pure carbon. Films are deposited on a surface of a substrate by means of a PVD process, with the portion of fluorine contained in doped form. Films are formed alternately being varied by varying a supplied volume flow of a fluorine/carbon compound or sulfur/fluorine compound as a precursor.

Abstract: A tube unit for the enteral feeding of a patient, with a tube segment that extends along at least a segment of the axial direction (S) and a retention device on the distal end of the tube segment, which extends in at least one direction radially to axial direction (S) beyond the distal end of the tube segment in an extended position and which has a smaller diameter in an elongated position, in which the retention device is elongated along axial direction (S). The retention device moves from an extended position into the elongated position is supported by a control device.

Abstract: An apparatus for combining under sterile conditions a liquid component held in a first container and a solid or liquid component held in a second container is provided. In one embodiment, two hollow bodies for receiving the two containers are provided, the two hollow bodies being arranged one within the other and being slidable relative to one another in a guided manner in the longitudinal direction. A cannula holder forms a pot-shaped structural unit with the first hollow body. Alternatively, the cannula holder is provided with at least one cannula. The cannula holder and the first hollow body may be separate components, in which the cannula holder is pot-shaped.
