摘要： Various embodiments of a frame for attaching an adjunct to an end effector of a surgical device are provided. In one embodiment, the end effector can include upper and lower jaws, and the frame can include features for releasably engaging one or the jaws. The frame can also include retaining features for coupling an adjunct to a tissue-facing surface of the frame, thereby releasably coupling the adjunct material to the jaw of the end effector. In some implementations, the frame can include a plurality of retaining features that are configured to engage the adjunct material to create a tension in the adjunct material, which can further assist with securing the frame to the jaw. In other embodiments, a removable applicator member is provided for retaining at least one adjunct material and for aligning and coupling the adjunct material to a frame.

摘要： An end effector for a surgical instrument is provided that has a first jaw, such as a cartridge body, having on a tissue-contacting surface thereof a plurality of staple cavities configured to seat staples therein, and a second jaw, such as an anvil, with a plurality of staple forming cavities formed on a tissue-contacting surface thereof. The first jaw has a generally rectangular nominal perimeter defining a regular perimeter around outer rows of the plurality of staple cavities. At least one of the first and second jaws has extension elements extending beyond the nominal perimeter of that jaw such that each of the extension elements has at least one attachment feature formed thereon. An adjunct material having a shape complementary to a shape of the jaw is configured to releasably mate with the attachment features formed on the jaw, via corresponding adjunct's mating features.

The end effector can also include a cutting member configured to cut tissue positioned intermediate the anvil and the staple cartridge. In various instances, the cutting member can be actuated by the closure system. In other instances, the end effector can include an independent system for actuating the cutting member. In various instances, the end effector can be delivered to a surgical site through a trocar and then operated by one or more actuators that are assembled to the end effector.

摘要： A fastener cartridge assembly for use with a surgical end effector. The fastener cartridge assembly can comprise a cartridge body having fastener cavities, fasteners removably positioned in the fastener cavities, a layer of material releasably secured relative to the cartridge body, a connector configured to secure the layer of material to the cartridge body at a location distal to at least one fastener cavity, and an actuator. The layer of material can be a tissue thickness compensator. When actuated, the actuator can overcome the connector, and can overcome the connector prior to the removal of the fasteners from the fastener cavities. The actuator can be actuated at a location proximal to at least one fastener cavity, and can extend distally past at least one fastener cavity toward the connector.

摘要： Devices and methods for sealing staples in tissue using a plurality of adjunct segments are described herein. In one embodiment, an end effector for a surgical instrument is described that can include first and second jaws, where the first jaw has a cartridge body removably attached thereto and the cartridge body has a plurality of staple cavities configured to seat staples therein. The second jaw can have an anvil with a plurality of staple forming openings formed therein, and at least one of the first and second jaws can be movable relative to the other jaw. The end effector can also include a plurality of sealing adjunct segments coupled to one another and at least one of the first and second jaws such that a staple ejected from the cartridge body passes through one of the plurality of sealing adjunct segments and tissue disposed between the first and second jaws.
