摘要: A clustered computer system includes multiple computer systems (or nodes) on a network that can become members of a group to work on a particular task, referred to herein as a protocol. A protocol is defined so that each phase of the protocol is terminated with an acknowledge (ACK) round. Within each phase of the protocol, a node cannot both send and receive a data message. The protocol includes an ACK round that provides a relative time event that indicates when a data message should be received. If the data message is not received when the ACK round occurs, the receiver knows that the sender did not send it, and can request that the sender re-send the missing data message. In a first embodiment, referred to herein as the “post-ACK” case, the receipt of expected data messages is checked after the ACK round occurs. In a second embodiment, referred to herein as the “pre-ACK” case, the receipt of expected data messages is checked before the ACK round occurs. In both cases, when the receiver sees the ACK round, it knows that the sender sent the data message. If the data message was not received by the receiver, it knows to request that the sender re-send the data message. In this manner the preferred embodiments provide an architected way for sending and receiving data messages without using timers in a clustered computing environment that includes ordered messages. As a result, the preferred embodiments may be readily implemented on computer clusters that include nodes on a wide area network (WAN) that have a large variability in their response times.

摘要: The present invention is a system for increasing Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) in a wireless communication system comprising a plurality of antennas each antenna providing a signal, a device for selecting a subset of signals provided by the plurality of antennas, a maximum ratio combiner for summing the selected subset of signals provided by the plurality of antennas, and a decision device for measuring the selected subset of signals against a predefined threshold. The device for selecting the subset of signals is coupled to the plurality of antennas. The maximum ratio combiner is coupled to the selected subset of signals and the decision device for measuring the selected subset of signals against a predefined threshold. The decision device is coupled to the selecting device such that one selected signal of the selected subset of signals is replaced by an unused signal provided by the plurality of antennas.

摘要: A fastener assembly for attaching components of dissimilar materials includes a fastener having a base portion and a protruding portion, and a mechanism for tightening the assembly. The base portion is shaped to be complementary for mating with an attachment feature formed within the non-metal component such that the base portion is retained within the non-metal component. The protruding portion including a base end and a distal end with the distal end including a threaded portion. The fastener assembly allows attachment of components fabricated from dissimilar materials without forming through holes in one of the components. Additionally, the fastener assembly compensates for differences in thermal expansion rates between the non-metal component and the metal component while providing a tight attachment therebetween.

摘要: An article of apparel is provided for determining location information via a global positioning system and transmitting the location information to a remote location. The article of apparel comprises a fabric web having at least one yarn of wire formed within the fabric web. The yarn of wire forms an antenna for receipt and transmission of radio frequency signals. A GPS receiver is interconnected to the antenna, wherein the GPS receiver determines a location of the article of apparel via a global positioning system. A transmitter is provided to transmit the location of the article of apparel determined by the GPS receiver. A power supply is interconnected to the GPS receiver and the transmitter.

摘要: A heat pump circuit is installed into the inner cavity of a chimney venting the combustion gases of a burner servicing a dwelling with the exterior heat pump coil mounted in an annular gap formed around the upper chimney end. A fan driven by the chimney draft augmented by the burner then rotates an exterior rank of blade segments above the annular space to draw ambient air across the exterior coil. A set of gated apertures in the chimney wall both above and below the flue damper then directs zoned airflows up into the chimney and across the inner coil that is deployed at, the lower, interior chimney opening with the air heated in a chamber surrounding the burner either selectively routed into the chimney to further increase the chimney draft or routed into the dwelling for warmth.

摘要: An apparatus, program product and method initiate a restart of a node in a clustered computer system using a member of a clustering group that resides on a different node from that to be restarted. Typically, a restart operation is initiated by the member in response to a membership change message sent by another group member that is resident on the node to be restarted, with an indicator associated with the membership change message that indicates that a restart should be initiated. Typically, the restart is implemented in much the same manner as a start operation that is performed when a node is initially added to a cluster, with additional functionality utilized to preclude repeated restart attempts upon a failure of a prior restart operation.
