Abstract:
The invention provide a class of actinically-crosslinkable silicone-containing prepolymers obtained by functionalizing an intermediary copolymer to have two or more thiol or ethylenically-unsaturated groups covalently attached thereto, wherein the intermediary copolymer is an atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) product of a reactive mixture comprising a polysiloxane ATRP macroinitiator and at least one hydrophilic vinylic monomer. The present invention is also related to silicone hydrogel contact lenses made from a prepolymer of the invention and methods for making the contact lenses in a cost-effective way and with high consistency and high fidelity to the original lens design.
Abstract:
The invention provide a class of water-processable polymerizable prepolymers which comprises (1) siloxane-containing monomeric units derived at least one siloxane containing monomer having one hydrophilic group or chain and/or polysiloxane-containing crosslinking units derived from at least one hydrophilized polysiloxane or chain-extended polysiloxane crosslinker; (2) hydrophilic monomeric units derived from one or more hydrophilic vinylic monomers; and (3) from about 0.05% to about 5% by weight of polymerizable units each having a pendant or terminal, ethylenically-unsaturated group and free of any polysiloxane segment. The prepolymer comprises from about 20% to about 50% by weight of silicone relative to the total weight of the prepolymer and has a high water solubility or dispersibility of at least about 5% by weight in water and suitable for making silicone hydrogel contact lenses.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an amphiphilic polysiloxane prepolymer which comprises hydrophilic monomeric units derived from at least one hydrophilic vinylic monomer, polysiloxane crosslinking units derived from at least one polysiloxane crosslinker having at least two terminal ethylenically-unsaturated groups, dangling polysiloxane chains each of which is terminated with one ethylenically unsaturated group, and chain-transfer units derived from a chain transfer agent other than a RAFT agent. A prepolymer of the invention is suitable for making hydrogel contact lenses. The present invention is also related to hydrogel contact lenses made from an amphiphilic polysiloxane prepolymer of the invention and to processes for preparing an amphiphilic polysiloxane prepolymer of the invention and for making silicone hydrogel contact lenses.

Abstract:
A housing for a scale or load cell controller suitable for use in harsh environments. The housing includes a moisture-resistant front display unit coupled to a rear interface and mounting unit. The front display unit includes a front housing, a back housing, and a frame overlying a boundary or seal region between the front and back housings to provide a double moisture-resistant seal between the front and back housings. The front display unit defines an interior region including a display and a plurality of user input keys and controller circuitry. The front display unit is removably attachable to the rear interface unit. A moisture-resistant seal is also provided between the front display unit and the rear interface and mounting unit. The rear interface and mounting unit defines a recessed area supporting a battery pack, a power supply and an interface circuit board. Circuitry in the front display unit is electrically coupled to circuitry in the rear interface and mounting unit via an edge connector circuit card that extends through an opening in the front display unit and mates with an edge connector socket supported in the rear interface and mounting unit.
Abstract:
The present invention includes a method for treating fungal infections, particularly onychomycosis. The method includes: applying a composition includes a photosensitizer, an effective amount of antifungal agent, and a pharmaceutically acceptable delivery system to a locus and irradiating the locus with a light source at a wavelength absorbed by the photosensitizer so as to destroy microbes at the locus. The present invention also includes a light delivery device for use in photodynamic treatment of onychomycosis comprising (i) a housing adapted to cover a nail beneath which a locus is situated; (ii) a light source; (iii) an energy source in power communication to the light source; and a controller that controls amount of light to be applied to the locus by the light source.
Abstract:
Methods and compositions for the treatment or prophylaxis of a disorder associated with platelet activation or enhanced thrombin activity are provided, that include the administration of an effective amount of a compound of the formula: or its pharmaceutically acceptable salt, ester or prodrug, wherein the substituents are defined herein, optionally in the appropriate pharmaceutically acceptable carrier for the route of administration selected.

In another embodiment, the invention relates to a process for producing a biopolymer-based starting material and biopolymer-based formed bodies such as cited above, for the manufacture of pharmaceutical, veterinary, food for cosmetic products.
Abstract:
A dental curing light including an elongate wand having a proximal end and a distal end, a plurality of LEDs disposed at or near a distal end of the elongate wand and a printed circuit board for mounting the plurality of LEDs. The LEDs include a main through mount LED and a plurality of surface mount LEDs positioned around the main through mount LED. The main LED is through mounted relative to the printed circuit board such that the power connections of the main through mount LED are made through a hole or holes in the printed circuit board. The power connections of the main through mount LED are made on an opposite surface of the printed circuit board relative to the “top” surface to which the surface mount LEDs are mounted.
Abstract:
A method for determining the current value of a future development is disclosed. The method includes receiving a set of data corresponding to a plurality of variables associated with the future development and converting the set of data to a financial gain distributed over an estimated production period. The method further includes calculating a net present value of the distributed financial gain to the start of production and risk reducing the net present value of the distributed financial gain according to risks associated with the future development. The method also includes determining a distributed cost of the future development and calculating a net present value of the distributed cost and the risk reduced net present value of the distributed financial gain of the future development.
