Abstract:
The invention relates to a tubeless bicycle tire and rim. The rim is formed with opposing recesses configured to engage corresponding beads formed on the tire. With the beads engaged in the recesses, the tire and rim seal for form an air tight, sealed chamber such that no inner tube is necessary. The rim is formed with a single aperture having a valve installed therein. Preferably, the valve is formed with a ring which extends into the air tight, sealed chamber. In the event of a flat tire, the tire may be removed from the rim. The valve may also be removed by grasping the ring and pulling.
Abstract:
A bicycle wheel rim includes a rim body having an annular spoke-mounting wall and spaced left and right annular tire-retaining walls, and a pair of wear-resisting rings. The spoke-mounting wall has two annular lateral peripheral edges. The left and right annular tire-retaining walls extend integrally, radially, outwardly and respectively from the lateral peripheral edges of the spoke-mounting wall. Each of the tire-retaining walls has an inner surface that faces the other one of the tire-retaining walls to confine a tire receiving space therewith, an outer brake pad contacting surface opposite to the inner surface, and an annular end face distal to the spoke-mounting wall. Each of the tire-retaining walls further has a tire retaining projection, formed at a corner of the end face and the inner surface for engaging a bicycle tire so as to retain the bicycle tire between the tire-retaining walls. The wear-resisting rings are made of a resilient material. Each of the wear-resisting rings extends along the end face of a respective one of the tire-retaining walls, and projects radially and outwardly relative to the end face of the respective one of the tire-retaining walls to prevent the end face from contacting directly the bicycle tire to minimize wearing of the bicycle tire.
Abstract:
A vehicle tire wheel has a tire (31) and a rim (32) with elastic members (39) formed on left and right side flange pares (37). The tire (31) is mounted to the rim (32) so that the elastic members (39) cone in contact with left and right side bead parts (35) of the tire (31). The elastic members reduce undesirable force exerted on the left and right side bead parts (35) from the rim (32).
Abstract:
A tire 10, having a rim flange support 18, is provided with void areas 24 in the rim flange support 18, to make possible firm attachment of weights 26 to a rim flange 22 when tire 10 is mounted on a rim 20. The wheel (tire/rim) construction makes balancing of the wheel easier and reduces the possibility that a weight 26 will be lost while the tire is being used.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a rust-proof, leak-proof and air-impervious welded tire rim by providing a pair of rim bodies each of which includes a peripheral bead and at least one of which includes a valve seat defined by an opening and with the rim bodies being welded to each other along an exterior circumferential weld; liquid-cleaning the welded rim; and applying to the entirety of all exposed surfaces of the rim an air-impervious coating of resilient copolymeric material whereby any porosity of the circumferential weld is sealed against air migration and the rim beads and valve seat are all totally coated with a resilient air-impervious coating for effectively sealing against air migration in association with a tire bead and an air valve body, respectively.
Abstract:
Sealing means for a pneumatic tire and wheel rim assembly in which the wheel rim has a pair of axially spaced bead seats defined by grooves in each of which a respective one of a pair of axially spaced tire beads is located and retained. The sealing means comprises two seal elements each having a resiliently deformable portion which acts between confronting axially directed surfaces of the associated tire bead and bead seat to facilitate assembly and subsequently hold the tire bead under compression in an axial direction to prevent the tire bead slipping relative to the wheel rim.
Abstract:
Each bead of a large pneumatic tire has permanently connected to its bottom an annular metal part serving as a bead seat and formed with a conical bearing surface. The rim for the tire has a fixed or movable axial stop member for each bead. Each axial stop member is formed with a conical stop surface, and the conical bearing surfaces are respectively engageable with the conical stop surfaces. Each pair of engaged bearing and stop surfaces is inclined with respect to the common axis of the tire and rim by an angle within the range of 10* to 30*. The structure prevents the tire and rim from slipping in rotation with respect to each other and is particularly adapted for use on construction equipment and the like.
Abstract:
This disclosure relates to a tire construction which gives an improvement in the run flat characteristics of the tire construction described and claimed in U.S. Pat. No. 3,392,772 and, therefore, an improvement in the safety features of the tire. This improved construction comprises locating an annular safety rib member radially outwardly of and in substantially the same radial plane as each bead and rim flange area in the tire described in U.S. Pat. No. 3,392,772; these safety rib ring members may be either cured integrally with the tire or may be cured as a separate ring and then cemented to the proper locations on the inner surface of the separately cured tire.
