Abstract: An optical microresonator based RF oscillator sensor for measuring mass, temperature, and particle/molecule concentration. An optical energy source is coupled to the optical microresonator to generate optical power oscillations at Rf frequencies. A stable or reference RF oscillation frequency is established which allows for measuring oscillation frequency variations induced by the interaction of the substance with the optical microresonator.

Abstract: Provided is a method for fabricating a nanopatterned surface. The method includes forming a mask on a substrate, patterning the substrate to include a plurality of symmetry-breaking surface corrugations, and removing the mask. The mask includes a pattern defined by mask material portions that cover first surface portions of the substrate and a plurality of mask space portions that expose second surface portions of the substrate, wherein the plurality of mask space portions are arranged in a lattice arrangement having a row and column, and the row is not oriented parallel to a [110] direction of the substrate. The patterning the substrate includes anisotropically removing portions of the substrate exposed by the plurality of spaces.

Abstract: Provided is a readout integrated circuit (ROIC). The ROIC includes a memory for each of a plurality of pixels, an address selector to synchronize a subsequent bias voltage for each of the pixels, a reference voltage recover switch to subtract the initial bias voltage from an output voltage of the integrated circuit and to result an integrator voltage for a sample and hold block, and a pulse-width control circuit to prevent crosstalk of the subsequent bias voltage between first and second ones of the pixels while a pixel clock selects adjacent columns. The memory maintains an initial bias voltage for each pixel during an initial integration frame time and during a sample and hold readout processing time. The sample and hold readout processing time is utilized to write a subsequent bias voltage for each pixel for a subsequent integration frame time to allow the first one of the pixels to have a different bias voltage than the second one of the pixels inside each integration frame time.

Abstract: The present invention provides a semi-quantitative lateral flow assay device and method for generating semi-quantitative data from a lateral flow assay. The device comprises a thin, porous hydrophilic substrate wherein the substrate includes a star-shaped or other geometry taken in plan view having a liquid sample-receiving central region and multiple arms that extend or radiate out from the central region. Each arm includes a reaction zone formed by the presence of an analyte-capturing agent wherein the reaction zone of each arm is located at a different distance from the central region such that the analyte in the sample is captured accumulates in different quantities at at least some of the reaction zones of the arms in a manner that can be analyzed to yield semi-quantitative data from lateral flow assays. The reaction zones on the arms can be analyzed visually and/or by software analysis of a digital image based on color saturation, grayscale, or other characteristics of the reactions zones due to the presence of different amounts of analyte to produce semi-quantitative data of the total loading of a virus or other agent of interest of a patient's blood.

Abstract: A fixation device and method for the subcutaneous fixation of bone fragments. A fixation mesh is formed by the intersection of a plurality of linear legs that are interconnected in sagittal planes to form linear sagittal lines and a plurality of crimped legs that are interconnected in transverse planes to form transverse lines. The mesh resists expansive forces that are created in the linear sagittal lines and a compressive stress is created in the transverse lines when tensile loads are applied to the linear sagittal lines resulting in a device that minimizes the gap distance between bone fragments.
